does anybody know when cannondale switched to 1.5 from 1 1/8th on their MTB's?

i have a 97 thats 1 1/8th and a 99 that is 1.5. but then i saw a 2001 that was 1 1/8th.

what gives?

The M models never switched. The first headshock was around '93 maybe, so that would be the first 1.5.

Was that even a real 1.5? It was their own version, it definately didn't follow (as it was before) the 1.5 standard.

so when they switched to F's thoose are 1.5? and the M's are 1 1/8ths? hardtail wise..

Maelstrom's right - - the Cannondale Headshok was not a true 1.5. It was their own proprietary 1.5-ish setup to accomodate the Headshok. I think Cane Creek makes a converter headset to go to 1 1/8", but that's about it. As far as I know, no converter headset or reducer for the newer 1.5 standard will work in a C'dale.

yes, although they made some 1" and 1.25" early on as well.

Maelstrom.. I just took a caliper to my headshok steerer and got about 1.560", so I guess they aren't exactly 1.5"... I never knew.

I just remember lots of discussion about it early on. I didn't remember the details but I do know, reading the 1.5 standard website that headshock wasn't "standard" :)...

It's actually 40mm (1.575").

My 1991 M400 had a 1" steerer.

My 1993 Delta V was the 40mm as was my 1999 F1000 and my 2002 Jekyll 700.

There are adapters out there and Cane Creek does make one from 40mm to 1-1/8". It ain't cheap, but it'll git-er done.
