Bicycle Mechanics - DT Swiss 204 versus Kore xct

Guys

I have to replace the wheels on my mountain bike. I have the rims, but I still need the hubs. I cannot get Phil Wood in the country where I live, but I have centralized my attention on two different brands: DT Swiss or Kore. The DT 240 are expensive, very expensive, and the Kore xct is a bit cheaper. Please guys, help me in my decision, pointing the good and bad points of the 2 model of hubs

Now for the question you didn't ask; why not Shimano or SRAM hubs? They are durable, well proven and MUCH, MUCH less expensive.

So the question I should would be: "Knowing the Shimano hubs are very good and cheap, the DT 240 is very expensive and the Kore is between them, which hub has the better ratio price/quality? which hub is more durable without the need to regrease the bearings?"

MTB's are notoriously hard on components due to the dirt and water they go through. If you refuse to do any maintainance then DT hubs will probably last longer but be much more expensive to purchase and much more expensive to repair when the bearings finally fail. Kore is unknown to me so I can't offer an opinion. I'm not sure they are distributed in the US.

My suggestion would be the 240s all the way.

Hope might be another brand to consider. Relatively easy to get in parts of Europe, not quite as easy in the US.

The 240s simply looks to be a great hub, and I believe the maintenance is fairly easy. I don't have any actual experience with it, but I know several who have, and they seem to love them.

The Shimano/SRAM stuff is good (especially for the price), but it is simply not as good as the DT hubs, IMHO. The DT's will build a stiffer wheel, and will likely last longer, and are quite a bit lighter.

Strong, Light, Cheap. Pick two, as the saying goes.
