Hello

This might seem a bit strange question, but how do you measure your resting heart rate? Do you fool around with a breast belt and your clock in the bed or ..?

I've worn my heart rate monitor to bed on ccassion. I would think fumbling with it in the morning when you wake up wouldn't be very effective, as your movements would begin to escalate your HR.

Just have your watch at hand. First thing when you wake up, lie quietly while taking your pulse and counting how many beats for a full minute. Repeat 3 mornings in a row, get the average value and you're done.

don't even pick your head up off the pillow. open your eyes and check using the clock radio. since you can't draw a line with one point, repeat several mornings and see the pervasive number.

I just strap mine on late night while watching TV, Ill lie on the couch or in the bed for an hour or so and watch it. After Im still for about 20 minutes, Ill measure. Just dont move. It will spike 3 beats or so just from turning your head or raising an arm.

If you have a recording heart rate monitor, like a Polar S720i, you can put it on at night and let it record while you sleep. It's actually pretty interesting to see the results. In addition to being able to see how many times you wake up and turn over (HR spike), you may be surprised how your body becomes more and less active through the night as you pass through the various stages of sleep. Usually, some time in early morning, you will record your lowest heart rate which will almost certainly be several beats per second lower than what you measure upon waking in the morning.
