Why are their ads in the middle of the thread listings?

Is there a way to get them out of the way but still keep them?

They help pay for the forum. Pay $25 for the red star and they go away.

No, this is an annoying ad in the thread listings (not the thread itself) and it just showed up. I don't think it's supposed to be there, but maybe a mod can clarify...

If these are permanent, I'm out-a-here. (48 hours and counting)

It is supposed to be there... I just put it there.

Give me a week to test the ad locations... you will see a few changes over the next few days as I figure out a way to pay the bills around here.

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooo, he gave a deadline!!!

The ads don't bother me a bit. If it helps pay the bills & I can continue enjoying this forum I'm all for them. Soon I'll get my red star, one day I promise. :D

Here's how to get rid of them:
Upgrade membership
No ads!
Little red star!
More private message space!
Larger avatars!
That feel good feeling... (http://www.bikeforums.net/payments.php)

That new one in the threads listing is definetly an eyesore. :(

Yeah, these new ads suck ass. I'm not going to leave or anything, but if I were a first-time visitor I'd definitely move on to another forum.

Just something to think about...

I like the ads in the threads -- sometimes I get good ideas from them and sometimes I click on them. So I don't want the red star, because I don't want the in-thread ads to go away. But I really, really, really dislike the ones in the thread listings. Not those ads Joe, please not those ads.....

It's rather simple, the old ads did not pay the bills, the new ads do. They are annoying, and they get clicked on. Without ads, I can't pay the $10,000.00 hosting bill for this year.

SO what is it anyways? Ads between the threads? Isn't that what there used to be?
Since i payed 25 bucks a long while ago, I've forgotten what they look like ;)

At the end of the day, Joe is the owner of this forum and the one responsible to pay the bills - keeping this forum alive. As the forum grows, bandwith consumption increases, and so does the server bill. This forum has nearly doubled its membership in the past 2 years I think.
Perhaps more red stars would equate to fewer ads

I actually clicked on one of the new ads today. I never clicked on the old ones, I always skipped over them visually, but the new ads catch my attention.

I guess that makes Joe's case. I clicked on the old ads, without getting annoyed by them, and do get annoyed by the new ones. But I suppose I will get used to them, and perhaps start ignoring them as well, so Joe will have to find new and even more intrusive ways of funding.

As I said before, I like the in-thread ads. I don't suppose I could pay the $25 and keep them, but lose the other ones? No, I didn't think so.

If we all promised to click on 10 ads a week, would that be enough to stop the new ads? Another silly question.

Please just don't click on ads to click on them. Joe could lose his ads because of that. If you see something you like, that's totally different- he gets something like 5% of a sale (or some really small amount), but clicking just to click= bad.
