Touring - Another windy ride!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Seems the wind has been blowing at 20 mph all spring! Will it ever die down? I don't mind 5 - 10, but 15 - 20 with gusts to 30 or more is getting old. On the bright side I know it is making me strong both physically and mentally. This is the year I do my first unsupported tour and I will need both. Anyone else struggling with the wind on their rides?

If I'm just in training mode (don't have a specific touring or errand route to follow) I deal with windy days by either riding flats into the wind on the way out, and "sail" home, OR if there is a significant climb I can do that is WITH the wind, I use that to help the climb, and then use the wind on the ride down to keep my speed in check.
If I have no choice but to deal with a gale in my face, I just gear down, and realize that I'm getting a great workout with very little risk of an accident caused by speed :)

15 to 20??? That's just a light breeze by Wyoming standards.

Its hilly, its Texas, its windy. Once you accept that its OK.
I did one 3 day tour in February that was chock full of weather. The first day was great. I left after lunch and did 40 miles in mild weather. Day two was 45 miles dead on into a 20-30 MPH solid wind, 40 degree temps, with gusts to who knows what. It took over 5 hours. Day three the temp zoomed to the mid-80's with a 10 mph wind from the opposite direction, almost in my face as I came home.
Anything under 15 mph is considered to be a gentle breeze in these parts.
