Mountain Biking - Post pics of yourself!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This picture is from today. We went riding at Santos in Ocala, Florida. My buddy tacoed his wheel BAD on a steep downhill. I just figured you guys would like to know the man behind the name :D

There are sections at Santos that are almost vertical that we ride. So yes... there are VERY steep downhills.

The purple skirt on the right! I've only had someone with a camera with me once while riding, but he was on foot and was too far behind me to get a decent shot. I'll get one one day!

Bull Mountain was one of my fav. rides when I lived in Georgia. Have you ridden Pigeon Mountain? Great trails and not very crowded since it's a remote location. Here is a pic of the last time I rode there:

i'm quite satisfied...
i've done some pretty steep downhills - i bought the frame a little small for me so i can get way back behind the seat.
the only downhill problems i have had are on steep loose rock/boulder downhills in Lake Garda Italy where i had some troubles but i think it is more me than the bike - no real traction from loose sliding boulders - you can hardly walk down the trails - and braking is almost impossible as there is no traction so you have to bomb it...
as for raising the fork i have no plans as 1) i've already spent enough $$ and 2) i do lots of climbing and some XC racing so i don't really think the extra weight is worth it... but then never tried it
what do you think of yours? any plans to raise it and if so how will that affect the overall geometry? better for downhilling b/c your weight will be more back b/c it will be tilted to the back with the raised front, but what else?
PeterG1185

Hey,
It doesnt increase the weight at all to raise the fork to 100mm's of travel. All of the floats are internally adjustable between 100 and 80mms. I was just wondering b/c it looks like you were doing some pretty gnarly stuff there with the bike. I havent tried it yet but it'll definately make it easier to control while going downhill, you'll keep more upright due to the slackened geometry. Downsides it wont climb as well b/c the slacker geometry and it'll bob more, but thats what a lockout is for right? Besides i dont need 4" of travel here where i ride
forgot to mention i threw a pair of hope mini's on my bike just recently. definately worth the weight

Here's me today... just got the full face helmet... thought i'd have my bro take a picture of me with it on.
It was too cold out to put on a good jersey or anything.. so I'm just in plain clothes, some gloves, and an FF helmet.

Hey BHM, what helmet did you get and who painted it? It looks custom.
Well, here is another pic of me my wife just found on the net.

Looks like a Helmet Skin. (Nylon type cover that goes over helmet to give it a custom painted look.) Pretty popular with the moto-guys to cover up all the scratches on the helmets... check out www.motovationracing.com

Maybe the fact that it was late in the year (just before thanksgiving) had something to do with it. I saw lots of tourists, but they were more towards the ends of the bridge. It was a beautiful day when I crossed. It would have been nicer if I could have gotten a better shot of Alcatraz or Downtown from the bridge.
Peace

Hey Dirtbike dude.
It's a helmet skin, yes. The actual color of the helmet is white with Blue stickers... kinda ugly. The helmet is an actual motocross helmet made by Vector. My friend USED to motocross.. and doesn't need it anymore... so I have it on a "long term borrow to buy" program from him. He said he'd sell it to me for $40.00. It's about 4 years old, in decent condition, and has the polycarbonate shell is fully SNELL certified & everything.. and it's really comfortable. is $40 for it a good deal?
Thanks for the compliments!

BigHit- I'd say that $40 is a pretty good deal especially for the snell rating. I ride downhill with a specialized biking helmet, and motocross with a larger bieffe helmet, and I'd say for biking you might want to invest in something vented and lighter like a giro. My moto helmet feels a lot heavier, but then again you tend to go a little faster and higher on a dirtbike so I don't mind the extra weight for a safer helmet. Just my opinion, but if you just ride bike's then save the $40 and save up another 40 for a full-face bike helmet. Plus their not as bulky as the moto helmets.... -Matt B.T.W. Sick Big-Hit, how do you like it? I just bought my second specialized....2003 P.2 and threw on a Junior T.... rides pretty sweet.

The BigHit's flat out awesome
If I had enough money.. I'd go get me a P2 for the trails that "require" a hardtail.. and for some good DJ's & stuff..
It climbs better than you'd think, it manuals really good, it LOVES to go DOWN... :-)
I'm lovin it...
As far as the helmet goes... it really doesn't feel HUGE, or obsessively heavy... I might just need to beef up my neck a little bit to get used to it. I really just don't have enough money to purchase a brand new full face.. unless I found one on sale or something...
We'll see. I still haven't actually purchased the helmet yet.. so I still have time to decide.
