I was reading some of the post in What do you ride? and saw several references to what my wife rides and so forth.

That got me thinking. Who has the better bike? You or your S.O.(significant other)?

Mtn Bike - Mine: Cannondale F2000SX: Hers: Cannondale Raven.

Toss Up, I've got discs and a Lefty, XT and XTR R-Derailleur, She has Full-Suspn and it's Carbon Fiber, Full XT. but she also has Spinergy's I guess she wins if you figure total $ spent.

Road - Mine: Cilo 12 speed about 22 years old; Hers no contest, she has a brand new Cannondale R4000 with the Mavic remote shifiting.

Other - Mine: Specialized P.3 set up as a single-speed with a Marzocchi Z-2; Hers: Old GT backwoods that she uses exclusively on the trainer. I win that one.

Just curious as to how everyone else compares. I figure, if hers is better, she can't complain about how much I spend on mine. But then again, I work Saturdays at a bike shop for parts.(no pay) and of course it's to pay off my balance and not the other way around.

My wife, poor thing, rides once or twice a year. At least that limits her bike maintenance to tire pressure. We bought the bike in '93. The tires still have their teats.

Boomer - you just opened up a can of worms:
MTB -
Wife: Cannondale M 700
Me: Kona Lava Dome :(

Road:
Wife: Pinarello Veneta
Me: Trek 1100

She is killing me. My only consolation is I get to captain the tandem - Santana Visa. But, then again, it is clear who gets the next bike in the family!

Man, how'd you get to be captain, she'll only let me be stoker. Just kidding! I've got an old tandemn that I didn't mention because it's an old Schwinn that has been dormant in my garage for about 10 years now. I keep promising myself I'm going to rebuild it. I know then I'll put a trailer on the back for my son. Uh Oh, I just realized I'm going to have to start buying bikes for him in a couple of years. Then I'll really be in last place:cry:

Fortunately, I've got size on her. Otherwise she would be parked up front!

I guess it could be worse - if the wives weren't into cycling they just wouldn't understand!

All I have to say to you Boomer and Dirtsqueezer is that you are a very lucky pair. Many guys out there wish their S.O. were into riding.

Servus!

I have the better bike now, but this has only recently changed. When I bought RangerGirl her pearl-white Bergamont, it was infinitely more fantastic than my beat-to-death Trek, but she held this title for only a month.

I'm definitely one of the few guys I know that has a S.O. that rides. She is definitely awesome. Her nickname is "wildwoman" My only problem now is that I think she's getting too good and is learning more and more about bikes. Oh honey, I think I need a new pair of Pearl Izumi shorts, you know the one's that cost $120.00, or honey, I want a pair of those carbon fiber handlebars (another $70.00). She just did her first tri-athlon and finished 2nd in her class. Now she wants aero bars for her road bike.

Such is my fate, but I really can't complain, the other day she asked when we were going to get some motorcycles? Who are you and what did you do with my wife? Oh by the way, it was her idea to go ahead and get the big screen AND the satellite system.

You guys jealous yet? Did I mention she's blond, and gave birth to my wonderful son(now 14 months)? See picture attached.

O.k. I'm bragging, but she is the greatest!!! Good luck on the hunt for another like her, just leave mine alone OR ELSE!!! No really, women like this do exist! I know I've been blessed to meet mine.

Well I have yet to hit Domestic Incarceration, my term for married. My girlfriend is keeps wanting to ride.

My bikes - Y2K Schwinn Homegrown (lx/xtr), 2001 Schwinn 24" bmx cruiser, 1965 Schwinn Manta Ray, and the fugly bikes.
Her something she bought before.

When we ride it used to be spinning in granny for me, and I was still leave her behind. That is why I bought the cruiser. Since I am 5-11, that is as little as I can get and still have a comfortable ride. Not to mention, from time to time when I do go solo, I take both the Homegrown and the cruiser and make my mind in the parking spot.
As for her complaining, we are not married for one, and for two my cars paid off, her is not. Thirdly she has a dog that gets more attention than my bikes. That is saying a lot.

Nice to see a photo of Baby boomer and the wife!

I'm still trying to coax with Fiancee into riding, but she's having none of it *bless!*.

Still, I'm like a red rag to a bull, and hopefully, she's come around to the idea! :)

She'd even get to ride my Trek, now I can't say fairer than that!

:D

My wife's bike is better than mine by just a bit, and only because
I ride mine until it's falling apart and hers still has, what, less than
ten miles on the odometer. It's a lot newer but she doesn't ride
it much.

But I've been riding so much lately she's curious about where I
go and what I do so she wants to come along on my next ride
so that's a cool thing.

my girl doesn't even have a bike...she rides her brothers 97 schwinn mesa whenever she wants to be with me and can't do so without getting on a bike.

i like it when she does that though. she can't keep up, but i don't mind. just give it time, right?

Me:

Specialized Hard Rock (7,000 miles +)
Lemond BA 105 (6,000 miles)

She

Specialized Hard Rock (identical to mine) - (2,000 miles)
Cannondale R300. (800 miles)

While I have the better road bike, hers was set up JUST FOR HER by the LBS, and she likes it very much. So, we are fine.

We are going riding this weekend in Summit County, Colorado. Since both road bikes are on trainers in the basement, and yours truly is too lazy to dismount them, we will be doing the trails on the Hard Rocks!!

Mine: Cannondale Gemini 1000.

Hers: Dawes Edge Comp.

Mine is stock.

Hers we've made adjustments. She has back problems so she has a really fat gel saddle, and a gel cover on top of it. It's like riding on a water bed. She also sometimes has a chronic nerve problem in both hands. We could never find a grip padded enough to give her relief (some of you might recall the thread) so we bought some foam padding from a furniture shop and fixed it to the bars with duck tape. Her grips are massive!:)

The wife: 2002 Kona Bear custom build

Mine:2000 Kona Stinky compleatly custom
2003 Kona Stab Primo also compleatly custom
2002 Giant OCR, again cutom

I am definitly the better rider but she has improved greatly over the last year and is training to race (dh) next year. She is also alot more knowlagable about components although she is not to handy with a wrench. The last few times we went riding I just laughed because she was so much faster and smoother then she used to be I could not believe the improvment in her riding.
Here is a pic of her first drop and it was before she was as capable as she is now.

Me for now. Until her knee is healed. Then I think she may want something better.
