From Sean Yates site (http://seanyates.co.uk) today with some pictures of Tommy D doing some recon for the Giro...

May 4, more pics from the Dolomites
On my last day looking at the Giro climbs with Tom Danielson we rode up the San Pellegrino Pass and most of the way up the Mortirolo, where Tom got off and walked the last bit over snow which blocked the final kilometre. We couldn't get onto the Gavia due to snow. Tom was riding really well on 34x27 - his pedalling makes these climbs look easy but they are not - he's just a great climber. The Giro starts this weekend - I'm DS on the race so check out the diary over the next three weeks.

So is the 34x27 just a training tool to keep the legs spinning and from blowing up? With all the speculation about how steep these Giro climbs will be, how many of the top riders will be going for a compact setup like this?
