Mountain Biking - componenets for a new guy
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. im new to the mountain biking world and im just doing some learning here.. my question is, for a new guy who wont be doing 100% mountain riding, how much do the components matter. im just getting my feet wet so would i be happy with the sram 3.0 or the shimano alivio?? even when i go to the mountain, im sure right now i wont be riding all that hard.. just wondering and looking for opinions.. thanks
do my questions suck?? 2nd time i asked a question as a new rider and no responses.

Yeah, they don't matter as much, but once you get better, they hinder your performance.
I have a Shimano Alivio Derailleur.
It was great for me for a long time, did the trick just fine. Then I learned to pedal kick, and it skips like crazy because of the strong force on the derailleur.
But, for you it'll be fine. A good beginner bike is around 500. I wouldn't go any lower.
You should be fine with the components you have. If / when you start breaking parts then consider upgrading. Until then just enjoy being out there.

Jason222 is right at first it's all gravy but when you get more advanced it matters a bit, just as far as riding harder and having something thats stronger and a lot more dependable
thanks for that guys. feel better now.. i hope to 1 day learn what a "pedal kick" is... haha
