Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - You Ever See a BF in public but only knew them from BF... OMG!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today I say Mayonaise on Halsted going into the bank after hopping of his little Masi conversion.

It was funny because I knew who he was from BF but I've never met the guy.

I've run into people I've seen on Myspace & I've seen there name but it's a new experience being BF related and all.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I've asked people if they were from BF and they gave me the WTF look.

That's because you don't know the password. The password is "barbeque pork buns". As you seem uncomfortable with your past experience, I'll try to come in to the shop in the next couple of weeks. I'm a tall blonde and will be wearing spandex shorts and a team jersey. Just come up behind me and clearly and distinctly say the password.

At the Stupor Bowl a couple kids recognized my bike and came up to me.
It was cool.
I actually had hoped it would happen more.
Remember to say hi when you see the white Bianchi this saturday, Raygunner.

I met some random guy at my friends house last weekend and we started talking about fixed gears and randomly he said "LBS" and then stopped and said "local bike shop" and I think I responded "internet nerd" at which point we both realized we both spend too much time on BF without having said anything about it.

Somebody recognized me and my bike at the Crit Mass ride in Ottawa last week. Unfortunately, I don't remember their screen name or real name (sorry!).

Was he listening to The Spits' "Take Back The Alley" on his boombox?

Me too. Especially at Critical Mass.

And everytime raygunner posts, I do a double take because I worked with someone named Ray Gunn. :)

I had someone recognize me from a photo of my bike too. They said it was their computer desktop. They were just visiting town too. He was definitely shocked. It was a good time.

Mine's a POS (by BF/FGG standards) and I'm on here.

Sometimes I'll just ask random guys who I see around San Francisco on track bikes if they're BF'ers. It's gotten me into more trouble than I'd care to mention.

The only person I know is Sean/ $0.00/gal because I knew him pre-BF. Other than that I haven't been able to put faces to BFers.

So if you see a fat black girl with dreadlocks rolling on an ugly yellow fuji mixte, give me a fist pump.

i was in a bike shop in dc with sashae last weekend, and two guys recognized my interweb self...
"hey bumblebee!" and "it's janie!"
the first guy recognized my bag. the second guy was on flickr and recognized janie. he asked if his bike could have its photo taken with janie:

at races lots of people from BF introduce themselves - several who are more lurkers than posters. i think this is all cuz i post alot, i post alot of photos, and my stuff is all sorta different.

At least recognizing someone bike their bike is better than recognizing them from their ****** cell phone myspace photos!

With that said, I recognized Shants at the 12 monkeys race by his crazy colored bike.

And no, I've never recognized anyone from their ****** cell phone myspace photos.

I ran into Doctor Who at a bar once. Talked for a minute about local rides. That's all for me. Although, apparently we have a CM ride here now...it's official! Apparently it's mostly a bunch of art school kids. At least that's what the art school kids I sold an old bike to said yesterday. Not sure if I have any desire to go. I have enough trouble with former, recovering art school kids.

A friend of mine runs an intervention clinic for recovering art school kids.
I used to make fun of her for pursuing a degree in social work with a minor in painting.
Who knew....

Enjoy

one day i was at trackstar and the owner went to run an errand. he asked me to watch the shop for a few minutes. eddiebrannon walked in and i somehow recognized him (from the accent, maybe). he didn't recognize me, and apparently assumed i worked there.

was his bike ready?

"sure. here it is."

any problem installing the new headset?

"naw. smooth as a baby's ass."

wait. that's my old headset on there. . .and the new one is still in the bag taped to the handlebars. in fact, you've done nothing i asked you to do.

"oh yeah. stuff happens. we'll get back to you when it's done." he looked at me like i was crazy/stupid.

If you are in Chicago, stop by Northbrook on a Saturday or Sunday and you can meet a half dozen Chicago BF people, easy
