Since the threads about the Rapha's, Chromes, and German wool knickers, I've had my interest piqued. I spotted these the other day while internetting:

http://www.portlandcyclewear.com/catalog/item/2444695/2933070.htm
Granted, they are named "Humvee", but they look pretty good, and at a much more agreeable price than most others (I'm looking at you, Rapha). Plus, made in England, like Elton John.
Has anybody used 'em? Thoughts?

I've got a pair, the chamos is really nice. They look more techy in person. I have a pair of Hyponotic knickers also (kick ass BTW), the Enduras are nicer for longer rides and the price is nice. They are fitted enough to wear a jersy with them, if you want to get all OCP Endura makes nice wool jersys also.

when the ass wears out of my current pair, I cut down a pair of long pants with the right ankle already chewed up. Last time I actually had a couple pair hemmed.
Still if I had the bucks I'd be up for something a bit more "technical", and I'd be all over those Portland Cycleworks jerseys.

Thanks. How tough is the outer fabric? I think they'd work well for offroading, where there's all kinds of prickers and thorns to tear at them.

Dude! My pants from highschool are older than you are, or they would be rest their souls. :(

The fabric is pretty hardy, they are intended for offroad riding. No worrys.

When I see those, my mind just can't get over the unfortunate resemblance to the late nineties backstreet boys look. Orange nylon zipper pant/shorts, down vests and frosted hair. I think I'd have a hard time wearing them on that basis alone. They do look like a quality product however.

+1
Again, while I dig the high-end shants, cutoff BDUs are hard to beat.

i don't like the belt thing. kind of looks like you converted a backpack into a pair of pants. and i hate chamois, cause i don't ride for hours at a time, i do lots of short trips. chamois in loose pants makes me feel like i'm wearing a diaper.
i haven't done the shortened dickies yet, but that's where i'll start. maybe i'll graduate to chrome shants by the fall.

Not all of us sew...especially not well.
you kids could just try cutting some of your pants into shants... i used to wear a lot of my shorts really long. and i mean... cut-offs aren't that bad, especially with like, dickies and the like.
anyway, i wouldn't be able to wear something that says 'humvee' out of mere principle. it just doesn't make sense. it's like being a hardcore christian and wearing a shirt that says "hail satan" on it. or a vegetarian with a fur coat. i don't know.
as long as all these super retardedly techy pants people are buying cost more than 30 bucks, i won't be owning any of them. so. whatever!

BDU's rock. I've still got my old ROTC stuff and my dad's jungle boots he wore in Vietnam. I had the olive drab; the next year they went woodland camo.

Ask your dry cleaners to do the hemming for you. Cheap.

Word. I've got two pairs of dickies that I keep in rotation, wearing the spandex underneath. I'm curious about these because the pockets make it seem a lot more useful than dickies for riding around town all day (I've dropped manifests 5+ times due to dickies pockets).
Humvee is a crappy name, but outside of the website, how's anyone (you included) going to know? I'd say it's more like a vegetarian wearing pants that say "STEAK" or a christian wearing pants called "SATAN". It's just pants.

They never go out of style, especially if they were ISSUED to the person wearing them. They are also the best non-cycling pants I have for riding in. Very comfortable when paired with Old Navy boxer-briefs.
imma gonna make me some cutoff ACUs (http://www.blogs.telecinco.es/abordaje/imagen/honore_400.jpg) one o' these days.
