Bicycle Mechanics - Threadlock/loctite

Say I applied this to a couple screws, let it cure, then take the screws out 2 months later. When I put the screws back in, do I need to clean off the old stuff and reapply new stuff? Will the old stuff continue to work?

I'm thinking that once the bond is broken new threadlock would need to be reapplied, but thought I'd double check.

definitely apply new, and if it's all over the screw, take off as much of the old as you can.

The remaining threadlock residue will act a little like a "nylock" inserts but won't be nearly as effective as a new application. Your right, once the bond is broken it's broken for good.

Use acetone to remove the dried residue (and any spillage) and leave the bolt clean and grease-free. Then apply a new dose of Loctite

Vibra-Tite is reusable.

I think blue locktite holds pretty well on second and third re-use. I kind of depends on the situation.

I wouldn't reuse it for something like automotive brake calipers, but it may be OK for bicycle applications, such as French and Italian [un]fixed BB cups.

Tip: if you're out of loctite and you don't feel like riding out to the store, nail enamel/polish works almost the same.

It will be fine. I dont use loctite anywhere on my bike, never a problem
