Mountain Biking - New crankset arrived.....

I placed an order for a new crankset on Monday and it came in yesterday. I was able to swing by the shop today and pick it up. It is an FSA Gamma-Drive MegaEXO crankset with the external bottom bracket. It is not as light as what I would normally purchase but it should do the job. Claimed weight on it is 1130 grams. Actual weight is 1291 grams. A little outside the +/- 10% standard.

Anyway, here it is. Nothing special, it just looks like a nicely built crankset.

I recently picked up a pair of FSA V-drives for my Steelhead, For the short time a ran them (took them off because of broken BB) I was impressed with them, although the hardware that come with them SUCKS.

They wouldnt even stay in with locktite, except for one that wont come out for anything.

You should be very pleased with its performance, Lowcel. The Mega-EXO BB is a sweet setup. I think that's the one I put on my son's Trek last year when I was borrowing it for XC racing. Anyway, FSA is a very good Pacific Northwest company - - very supportive of the racing scene and purveyors of quality hardware. Enjoy!

I would have purchase one myself but the dealer I used only had raceface and shimano. So I got stuck with the new raceface diablous cranks and bb :D...

+1!! I still have the same V-Drive Xtremes that I'd built up my previous bike with - - and they're still going strong. My only regret was saying bye-bye to the bottom bracket (wrong size for the Yeti). The Race Face I replaced it with just is not the same . . . .

Those look like some nice cranks. Have fun with them.

This set makes the fifth set of FSA cranks that I currently own, probably the tenth set that I have owned over the past few years. I am very impressed with the quality of FSA overall. What's bad is that I may never even use this set, I just bought them as a back up set.

My FSA K-Force Mega EXO decided to die on me the other day. The female threads that the pedals screw into decided to come loose. This allows the pedal to actually wiggle around. I noticed it this past Saturday, a day before the race. I believe this is what caused my pedal to come off during the race a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, I called FSA and they told me to remove them immediately and send them to them. They should be sending me a new set sometime next week. They have always been a great company when it came to customer service.

Anyway, I stole the crankset off of my hardtail to use in the meantime, it is by far my lightest crankset. It is an FSA Carbon Pro team issue with an American Classic bottom bracket and custom Boone titanium rings. Very, very race worthy. :)

The new set is going to be going with me to races and on trips "just in case". Never know when either myself of someone else is going to have a problem with a crankset or bottom bracket. Since they only take about five minutes to switch out I figure it is a good thing to carry.

Sorry to be a dick but... at 1300g I sure hope it was 1/2 the price of an LX setup. Are the rings steel? For a non WW bike steel chainrings would be nice to have, might be able to get a few seasons out of a middle ring that way.

I've never used FSA, from what I've herd, its good stuff.

If your crank wont stay tight, rather than using locktight, get some Teflon Plumbers Tape. It should hold it.

The price was pretty impressive. Barely even put a dent in the wallet. The rings are steel so at the rate I plan on using this crankset they should last somewhere between 15 - 20 years. :D

The plumbers tape also helps get rid of creaking or popping that comes from a lot of bike's bottom brackets. Just use some of the tape as well as some grease. I have never had any need to use locktite on a bottom bracket.

I actually just got done ordering some for myself. For $84.99 I thought it was a nice deal.
I am in the process of building my first bike and am being as frugal as possible, while trying to put decent parts for a beginner on it.

Yayyy, soon going to change my cranks to either XT or LX depends on price difference. Yippie!!!, I think its been 6 months only Ive been using it and its getting worn out fast

I'll make sure to post a review of them when / if I use them.
