Commuting - How embarrassing

I just crashed. It was all me. But don't worry -- I was witnessed by plenty of cagers and pedestrians.

I was coming down a short hill approaching an intersection where I turn right. I was going a little too fast, so I braked. Too much front bake. My weight shifted forward a little. I started to skid a little. Hit a small irregularity in the road. And finally flew off my bike. It was brilliant.

A man in a car looked at me in the street in the lane next to him and said: "Are you all right." Then thought better of it and continued: "You're fine." And drove away.

I picked myself up, walked back to my bike, and moved to the sidewalk. A short examination revealed a scraped elbow, abrasions on my hands, and a small scuff on my helmet. The chain was off my bike and my cyclo-puter's strap was busted (although the head unit seems to be fine).

Ah well. I guess it was only my pride that was hurt.

I suspect it's happened to everyone. My only crash was all my fault. A fly flew into my helmet vent; thinking it might be a bee trapped in my helmet, i tried to shake it out. While I was shaking my head, I failed to notice that I was approaching the curb. When I hit the curb, down I went, rolling through a thorn-infested patch of gravel. I laid there for a good few minutes before I could get up, pull the thorns out, and continue on to work. When I got to work, I had a nice case of road rash to deal with.

Front of a crowded grocery store, while astraddle of my bike I stepped up and lifted the front end over a curb to a elevated sidewalk to reach a bike rack, ran over my foot with back wheel and fell over.

I once pulled up to a halt at an intersection and remained clipped in while I reached out for a lamp post to steady myself....

.... only to find that the post was the reflection of a post in my glasses.

A woman pedestrian kindly tried to ask If i was ok but she was laughing too hard :o

My one crash (knock on wood) occured when I heard an annoying clicking noise. Looked down to determine what it was and ran into a curb. Flew of my bike to the left.
The end result was a sprained wrist and road rash on my left leg. My wrist was so bruised it still hurts a month later. Not horribly bad.
The clicking noise was my left crank hitting a sensor for my cyclocomputer. Fixed with about 2 secs worth of work. That was really worth it. :(
