Mountain Biking - trek 820...advice needed

Well this will be my first mountain bike and i need advice on the bike.
Some guy has agreed to sell it to me for 250CAD... the upgrades he put on them are
RockSHox Judy's 4 inches of travel
deore shifters( when he emailed me he said hell put on LX shifters..are they the same or crappier?)
speed rear dereilleur (im not sure if its good but ive heard that the stock rear derailers are bad. is this one any better?)
giant alloy stem and handle bars
WTB headset(im not sure if its stock or an upgrade)



Questions
1. Is this a good deal?
2. Is this bike really heavy?
3. Will it last me?
4. im 5'6". its a 13" frame ... would this be too small for me?( i think it might be because i used to ride bmx before)

4. WAY too small for you. At 6'5 you should be looking at 19-23" bikes, my 5'3 wife rides a 14" just to give you an idea.

OH noo not 6'5'' HAHAHA oopps. Im 5'6". My mistake...

oh and how heavy do you think it would be ..30 lbs or more?

and whats so bad about this deal...and if not 250 how much should i offer him?

I fixed up my mother-in-law's 820, which looked identical to the one above, but in the 14.5" in size, and it weighed in right around 38 lbs. SUPER heavy. If you want the bike for XC (cross-country), you should be looking at a larger size. If you want it for free-ride/jumps/whatever you might consider a slightly smaller bike, but 13" still seems too small in any scenario...

It's not a good deal because those can be had new for only a bit more. And the judy is an upgrade, but not a huge one.

Oh the guy said that its 400 new (canadian prices not american)

if not this bike what should i get?i got the limit of MAybe 300 canadian dollars. what could i get used?

I think at that price a Trek 820 is among your best bets, I used to own a Cr-Mo frame, to be entirely honest, it seemed only a tad bit heavier than my current Specialized Rockhopper (not that weights matters to me anyway) and I can't imagine it being all that heavy.

itll make me a stronger rider right ? so it couldnt be taht bad...beside i used to have a hyper grind made out of steel...it was heavy but i could still get the front wheel up 1 foot when i try to wheelie.

Yeah, normally cro-mo is not THAT much heavier, but I'm telling you - the 820's are RIDICULOUSLY heavy, like the weight of a downhill bike (38 lbs!). My advice would be watch craigslist for the deals and don't just jump on the first thing you see. I see decent aluminum frame bikes all the time on CL for $150 or less. (Like Trek 4300's, Spec Hardrocks, etc). Definitely within your price range and not a boat-anchor like the 820. In fact, I ended up moving all the components from that 820 I mentioned earlier to an older aluminum Diamondback Response frame and saved OVER 6 LBS with all the exact same components! And the DB is a pretty heavy aluminum frame! 6 lbs can be a big difference on the climbs...

Yeah, get the bruiser 1. The 820 isn't a terrible bike, but he's lying about the price he got it for. I've seen them in my lbs for 250 Cdn.

Apart from the frame being heavy because it's steel, it's also indestructable. But, the bruiser 1 is definately better.

Yah in us i can get a trek bruiser 1 for $300...i dont know how much that is in candaian but thats a rip off.
