Having issues with the front end server, I took it off line for now. The site is running on one server for the moment. Hopefully I'll get things fixed soon.

The site will slow down with 1000 or so users online. But if you see any database errors, or empty threads, let me know. Post as much detail as posible in this thread.

Lots of blank threads. I get this in the URL box: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=193597&page=3

Some of the threads work, but most don't.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll see if i can recover the data that should be in thoes posts.

We are now back on 2 servers, speed should be a bit better. I have some work to do on the front end server, so expect some on and off access to the site for the rest of the day.

Maybe it's because nobody can understand what you're trying to say.

I'm about to quit bike forums all together, its just too slow, almost all the time. I waste too much time trying to bring up threads. This slow server has been going on forever....:(

I'm still being timed out when trying to get on or change threads. Living in the UK with the time difference this is not affected by too many being on.

I suggested this in another thread, and I'm still thinking it's a good idea.

I see stuff like:
Currently Active Users: 1466 (401 members and 1065 guests)

And I wonder why guests can't just be restricted somehow, to reduce the server load. I'm getting a few "server busy" messages this morning. I understand the need to attract new folks, but maybe during peak times, certain things should be throttled back.

Just thinkin' out loud. :)

Guests are restricted quite a bit as it is. When server load gets to high, guests are totaly shut out of the forums. The server busy message only shoes to registered members when the server load gets to 5.0 or higher. Closing down the site gives the servers time to catch up and get back to where they should be.

Guests bring in 90% of the income on the forums, they are the ones that click on ads, and buy stuff thru the affiliate links. I don't want to restrict them too much. :)

I've been getting the "server busy" message alot the last couple of days. It was a rare thing for me until then. Is everything running at 100%? Or has traffic just increased recently adding more strain to the servers?

The funny thing is the server seems to be getting owned more, after the server change than before...

The Post printed a deep link into the Singlespeed & Fixed gear forum it a very promenant place in the 18 June edition. I suspect that a lot of folks are poking around that.

Is there a way to allow the "Paying" (little red star) Members to skip to the front of the line? Something like V.I.P. treatment maybe?
