Does anyone else use this? My question is, do you notice it messing up in cold or rainy weather? Mine does, today it said I was doing 77 mph (I wish!!!), and the weather was rain. It also loses the mileage count along with the inaccurate speed. It did it over the summer rain too, but in nicer weather, it seems to function normally. If it's really cold, it does the same stuff. Is there any way I can correct this?

Mine does that sometimes. I have found that it happens less often if I regularly clean the contacts on the head and the bracket. Mine also comes up with "Err" for the average speed, but I don't know whether that is a related problem. I think the contacts don't make very forceful contact, which rain or cold could certainly affect the Flite Deck. One thing which has been suggested, but which I have not tried, is to put a dab of dielectric grease on the contacts. From what I understand, this is available at auto parts stores.

I sometimes get misindications on the gear display (jumping around between the 17 and 19) when it's been particularly moist. However I only get messed up speed readings when I encounter roadway sensors such as those at an intersection. I think the pulsing magnetic field from the metal-detectors of the sensors play havoc with the reed-relays of the wheel sensor pickup.

My pickup unit RB is also wireless so that may have some bearing on things too. I do have a wired unit on my MTB because I have Smart Shocks and there was some discussion on the K2 forums about the stray signals from the Smart Shocks interfering with wireless setups.

A few things to double check are the distance between the magnet and the pickup. The gap should between 1 mm and 5 mm. The other item to check is the magnet placement on the sensor. I found that the installation guide shows the placement of the magnet should be centered across from the small indentation on the sensor, but I found that moving the magnet down further on the sensor (towards the center of the sensor) my faulty readings ceased.

I use a 6501 on my R600 and Bad Boy Ultra. I noticed it was sensitive to magnet position, but once I got that squared away it has performed flawlessly for me. I'm very happy with it; it's not perfect but it's damn nice.

Just seems amazing to me how this "Shimano Flight Deck" conundrum keeps rearing its "uuuugggly head.

As I posted in the "mechanics" section, I installed an SC/SM 6501 wireless unit in July; and despite repeated tweaking, including re-entering of data, rechecking chainrings and cassette (including manually counting cogs), repositioning sensor, and inserting those little plastic shims I still don't get proper readings.

The cadence is usually off. Gear ratios (supposed to show with each shift) seldom show, and the graphic gear illustration shows the 12-13 properly but indicates 23 for the 14 to 23 shifts. I'm gonna take it to my LBS authorized Shimano dealer before spring. Meanwhile I mostly ride(because of the weather, not the problem) my SUV (hybrid); and, when I ride the roadie, I just ignore the non-working features.

Wonder if Ergobrain users encounter this nonsense. Never seen a post about it!!! Hhhhhhmmmmmmm...

I've had the 6501 wireless unit for 7 months and it has performed flawlessly. Hot, cold, rain, you name it...not one single glitch. Now, if I could say the same for my Polar A1.
