well depending on how big the jumps are, its probably fine. im sure any kicker under 4 feet is fine. although i must say, i would not invest in a gt.

Personally I would look at some of the hardrocks in the same price range. The GT just doesn't look to be that high of quality bike. What scares me the most about it is the brakes. I would prefer to have some type of avids, hayes or something along those lines. I don't think I would want to trust my life to a set of Lee-Chi's. The fork that comes with it is very low quality as well. By the time you replace the brakes and fork you could have purchased a much nicer bike.

Here is a link (http://www.gtbicycles.com/mountain/catalog/detail.php?id=2047&country=usa&brand=moun)to the bike if anyone else would like to check it out.

If you are doing dirt jumping, go hardtail, that's why they are around.

That bike is great. Gt's are great for the price. And, just because a company isn't popular, or you don't know much about the brand, doesn't make it a bad one.

In my experience, Gt's are awesome bikes.

I don't care how great of a bike it may or may not be. It's not great for what the OP stated he was going to be using it for.

As for not knowing much about the brand I believe you are mistaking, I've only owned three of them. As for my comment about the fork I don't think I have to own one of them to know the quality of them. I've seen and ridden plenty of them at the shop.

You might want to be careful with the word "great". There are a lot of great bikes out there, this isn't one of them.

I hit some quite big dirt jumps on a 100mm hardtail, by big I mean at the very least 2-2.5 mts, they are smooth as long as you can hit the jumps fine and you don't land on flat.

That sounds funnier said in a robot voice.

Try Specialized/Kona bikes, there are a few nice ones there.

This GT:

That bike is GREAT for the price. It's difficult to find a decent dirt jumper at the $500 range, and that's excellent for that price range.

He's using it for Dirt jumping, and it's a DIRT JUMPING bike.

But, ofcourse, it's no Cowan.

Here I would have to agree that the GT's are not the best bikes for the money. You probably would be better off with a Hardrock http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?sid=06Hardrock well under a thousand bucks and if you want to spend more for between 8 and 11 you can find a nicely equipped rockhopper.

Actually, they (GT) consider it a downhill / freeride (http://www.gtbicycles.com/mountain/catalog/category.php?catid=194&country=usa&brand=moun)hardtail. Which makes that even better, a downhill / freeride bike with a 100 mm RST Gila Plus T6 fork. Can you really consider any bike with that fork a "great" bike? If so then we have different definitions of "great".

How about checking out the reviews (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Freeride_Hardtail/product_123337.shtml) for this bike.

Staying in the same price range I would much rather have a hardrock, a khs or a haro.

Just a P.S. here: Lee Chi brakes are just Promax. Not great, but a 'known' entry-level mechanical. As long as you're just haulin' down from some DJ sessioning, it's probably not a big deal. As for the RSt fork, I think that Gila shows up on a lot of base-model jumpers. It's not great but it does have 30mm steel stanchions. That's not wimpy in steel - - heavy maybe, but not wimpy. 100 mm is enough for DJing if you're hitting the trannies; BMXers do it rigid all the time.

The review for that bike isn't the same, it's a totally different bike this year.

I'm not sure if you're stunned or not, but I SAID "It's great for the Price".

Have you owned a Chucker? I've never seen a chucker frame snap, and I've had tones of friends who've had them. They're a full on Dirt jumper.

A hardrock isn't even a Dirt jumping bike.

At this price range, YOU CAN'T EXPECT MORE THAN THAT KIND OF FORK OR BRAKES!

I guess I'm stunned because in post #6 you says "That bike is great." Maybe I'm just seeing things.

Maybe it is a "great" bike. Wouldn't be the first time I have been wrong. It still wouldn't be my first choice but that is just me.

What do you mean 'brake easy'? And what do you mean buy the suspensino 'braking easy'...suspension dosn't brake (unless you mean break, which in that case is possible :)).

Have you considered another brand? Have you considered another bike? Have you test rode any bikes?

Your not really going to get much more help then you already have asking strangers on an internet forum...just go to the bikes shops and ride the Jt Chucker and see if you like it or not.

I would have to say negetive on the GT. Like that other guy said go for a hardrock, and if you can say up for a P2 for about $1100 and that would take you there and back.

Good djers, for the most part, don't use a tonne of travel. Too much travel sucks up to much of the lip. 100 will be fine

What's wrong with these guys? The GT Chucker series are okay for DJ, at least after what I've read... Just switch the RST forks with something different with about 100 mm of travel. Check out the Mongoose Fireball 06, thats pretty nice (and it actually is a DJ) http://www.mongoose.com/bikes/detail_us.php?id=407&brandLine=Pro_US&brandID=67

Couldn't help myself.... The older I get, the more trouble I have deciphering modern spelling.
