Ok, so it has been decided that my dad is getting a new bike. Let me give you a little background first...
He is currently riding a 10 year old Raleigh (hardtail) and it has like 30mm of travel on the fork. The geometry is horrible for him and he hunches over for the handlebars excessively. He is 51 and in decent shape, but is a heavier rider (200-220). Based on the Raleigh, this bike will most likely be kept for the forseeable future, so he wants something that will hold up. Also, since he is the age he is, he definately wants a full suspension because it's much easier on his body.
I know enough about bikes to be helpful, but perhaps you guys would know of something more. We have narrowed it down to a Specialized Stumpjumper Expert. The budget is $2000 to $3000. We are looking for a cross country bike moreso than an all-mountain (We don't want to get into an enduro here). Apparently the XT cranks on the Stumpie Expert are far superior than the cranks on the Stumpie Comp. I am just somewhat concerned about the fork with a heavier rider... Would the Fox Talas on the Expert be able to hold up with this alright, or would you suggest something else? In terms of lockout, it's not vital because honestly, it would not get much use. I'm not a huge fan of the geometry of Trek's Fuel and would get a Stumpie over a Fuel anyway. Would you suggest anything else here? I really appreciate it:)
