Introductions - Hello from Illinois

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi, my name is Gene and I'm a bikeaholic! I live in Peoria Illinois the biking capital of the nation (not!).
I'm retired from Caterpillar Inc. so I have more time for biking & hiking now (if the weather cooperates). The only thing I miss about working is the bike commute. Nothing gets the pulse rate up like riding a bike in shift-change traffic ;-).
I'm looking forward to interacting with my fellow bikies on the forums.

Hi Gino! I'm over in the Cuba area! My better half and I ride a tandem in various areas over here, the traffic is very tolerable on most of our roads and the routes are diverse. We have many flats and many hilly areas. Good training area. We try to do RAGBRAI every year and at least one other week-long ride somewhere else.
I also ride my single in this area. In fact I did RAGBRAI this year on it for a change.
Unfortunately we're planning a Motorcycle summer this year and the TransAM bicycle tour from west to east in 2004 so we aren't planning to do RAGBRAI this coming summer or the one following, but plan on 2005's trip.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Gino. Welcome to the Forums. I'm a ways north of you but it's all Illinois, eh?
Some years ago, I rode a century in your area sponsored by the Illinois Valley Wheelmen...good ride, lots of hills. That year the ride started and ended at the Wildlife Prairie Park. I spent the night in a caboose at the park. It was kind of cool.

Welcome to BF from another Illiniosian. And I live in the Illinois Capital of Illinois as named by our state Reps http://www.ilbikecap.org/ :D Illinois is an interesting state to bike in since the Boub decision http://www.state.il.us/court/Opinions/SupremeCourt/1998/October/Opinions/HTML/84246.htm but we can't let some people ruin what we love.
