Tandem Cycling - 2006 Cannondale Road worth the wait

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So it finally got warm enough for my wife to want to ride the tandem. First impression is we're both happy with it. Some minor adjustments needed to be made to my seat height but had a good first ride with our boys. We were able to cover some road and the local rail-trail. I'm glad that we kept the 28's the bike came with I didn't think they would be wide enough for the rail-trail.
If anyone has a newer Cannondale I have one question about the piece of brake cable housing on the top tube at the captains seat tube. Ours has two treaded brake ferrules but the threads have been taped over with black tape. This seems an odd way to finish a nice bike is this how they all came or am I missing a part?

I'm not totally sure I understand your question, but I'll take a stab at it. We have an '05 'Dale RT. Our cable housing ends are made from molded black plastic, and it appears they also used one to retain the cable in the braze on cable guide on the top tube located near the captain's seat tube. It fits tight, and it looks and works well. Also, my LBS put lots of donuts on that long brake cable. If yours didn't, and they used some sloppy electric tape solution instead of doing it the right way, take it back, insist on lots of donuts (Mmmmmmm, donuts), the proper guide and then you should be a happy camper.

Them rubber mini-donuts avoid cable slap against the tube . . .

I've always advocated an alternative moniker.... "Cable Bagels".

Yeah thats the cable I was asking about its got plenty of donuts, and the end cable stops are black plastic like you have. Thanks for the info, I'll look at the floor model and get any parts swapped if they don't match. I would prefer the black plastic over whats or there now. I need to go back to the shop with the rear wheel for dork disk removal or get the tools for a diy. That disk is so larger its got to go, I just wanted to make sure the gear set-up was right before it came off.

I'm with you regarding the dork disk. You could remove it with an aviation shears, but let the LBS do it. The plastic guide appears to be nothing more than a cable housing end made of black plastic. Should be an easy fix.
