Bicycle Mechanics - how hard to add stem riser

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

can a relatively non mechanical person put a stem riser on a threadless handlebar or change stem without going to lbs or would it be too difficult? My bike mechanics so far has been limited to changing tire and putting on computer.

farrellcollie,
Might depend on the cables. If they are too short you might need to go to lbs.

Depends. See: http://sheldonbrown.com/handsup for details on this.

Thanks for the responses. Since I didn't really understand the Sheldon Brown site info - it may be beyond me to change it out.
