low bottom brackets, traffic circles, turn-arounds, inexperienced riders, stubborn spanish compadre's insisting on dangerous courses out of well, stubborness. bah!

well atleast I didn't crash or run over anyone..

can't we stop doing these?

"If you don't like it buy a track bike"

psh. well I won this Redline Monocog SS Mtb. it's pretty, but it's a 15" and I ride a 20".

Doesn't sound that different from a regular crit... ;)

Also, compared with crit bikes, don't track frames have just as high, if not higher bottom brackets. What are you doing riding a fixie conversion in a crit?! Death wish.

Depends on who you talk to. Regular folks mean "the old road bike I wouldn't mind crashing" but some people mean nice stiff 80s/90s crit specific frame with slightly higher bb and twitchy handling.

any bike that doesn't twitch like a rabbit's nose is a tricycle.

hmmm a tight pack of people with varying bottom bracket heights, crank lengths and pedal styles rounding tight corners at speed without being able to stop pedaling... Oh yeah and a mix of braked and brakeless riders most of whom probably have little to no experience with group riding.

Sounds like a recipe for injury unless by alleycat style crit you mean a race on a short road course with various non-biking activities to prevent it from ever bunching up.

I don't know much about it, but there are regular Midnite Crits in Somerville, MA.

Exactly. Bring your helmets! Knee and elbow pads optional!

yep, the last one was a lot of fun. the course was 10 laps around davis square. the streets were wet and slick. i ended up crashing to go on the inside of a turn, but aside from a few scrapes i was fine. the cops broke it up towards the end, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Do you have to ride in 'pedestrian areas' fast in order to have-fun/do well?

AlThe park is just the starting line. The race will range all over Tempe. The last one went as far Northwest as the Marquee and as far Southeast as Broadway East of McClintock. Prepare to climb ASU parking garages. A lot. And maybe do shots when you get to the top.
