Bicycle Mechanics - STI Shifters on bullhorns

Can anyone think of a reason why migrating some Shimano 600(older Ultegra) shift/brake levers wouldn't work on the bottom side of bullhorn-bars?

Had that same setup with a 8 speed 105 tri bike. Worked fine.

So you had no problem reaching the break levers from the flatish bullhorns?

I dont see why the sti's wouldn't work, but if you want geared bullhorns, try bar-end shifters in the ends, with interuptor (cyclocross) levers clamped around the end.

You'll rund into a problem of running the shifter housing under the clamp of the brake levers, but Pyramid (J&B house brand) makes cyclocross levers in the larger diameter, and provides a shim. I filed down the shim to allow the shifter housing to pass through.

With the above setup, you have braking and ****ing all in the same place, and rapid up and downshifts involve one motion (moving the lever) instead of several (clicking the STI several times).

I'm trying to reuse as many of the current parts as possible, and I've got the STIs already

Two of my fellow riders in my Tuesday club ride use bullhorns with STI. One even has secondary brake levers on the tradtional tops.

So you had no problem reaching the break levers from the flatish bullhorns?

Shifting and braking wasn't a problem. I ended up putting in conventional drop bars because I wasn't doing many TTs and wanted a regular road setup.
