Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I ordered a Brand new 2006 Fuji TRACK road racing TRACK bike.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
LOL... Sorry for the name. I couldn't resist, seeing that recent Motobecane topic name. Also I couldn't resist getting a track bike after riding my fg conversion for so long, I wanted a bike that was the real deal.
(staying on a budget, and for my nice days out commuting.)
Here's a picture of my new beauty!! (Damn free sites and their space limits, otherwise you would've seen a much larger picture)
http://f5.putfile.com/5/12720124290.jpg
It's mostly stock. The only thing I changed was that I stuck a pair of bullhorns on it, and a pair of cheapie nashbar atb pedals. I absolutely LOVE it! It's quite a change from using an old Fuji Delrey conversion.
About the photo, it might look like I have a ridiculous angle on the bullhorns. This is only because they are slightly pointed up, but when I took the photo, it was from a real low angle looking up. More pictures to follow!
Quick question on my bike. I want to take off the reflectors and I guess I can stick them on my commuter. How can I get the reflectors out without damaging them? From what I observed there's two plastic pieces that go in between a spoke, and then clicks into a hole in the middle of the reflector.

i am 12. your bullhorns have a *****. happy bike!
It was ~ 500 total. It was cheaper than $550 for a Mark V, and then on top of that shipping cost was ~60 from IRO. I've heard lots of great things about IRO and all, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to put in the extra money for it. (I didn't have a great deal to spend.)
I can't compare it to anything else besides my old conversion, but even so I don't even know where to start on how it feels.
It feels to me like you're going to be spending a ton of dosh upgrading the components. I love mine too and just about the last thing to go is the frame:)
The paint job on these Fuji Tracks are too shiny! I will never replace it! Until I find a new shinier one. >.>

if you bought it as a Windsor "The Hour" you could have saved yourself at least another $100.
It's the same bike. only Red.
or Yellow.
The pretty paint job is worth the +$100:eek:
Well, honestly I had no idea. I do like what comes stock on the Fuji so far, it's sufficient for my needs. Also having it bought from the LBS makes them happier with me, and they can help me with stuff. Whereas Bikesdirect would probably never even reply to an email. :p

Yeah - they look.... eager:eek:
I agree I think the Fuji looks pretty good for a stock bike.
I wonder why the frame is proving so popular with licensors...
Well all I know is it gets me around town, with STYLE I might add. AND I LIKE IT!!:D
Comparing the Fuji bought at an LBS to a Windsor bought from Bikes Direct is just wrong. The LBS is a real company, not some lame front with no customer service. Plus the LBS put the bike together, rather than some Bikes Direct guy who doesn't know a chainwhip from a headset press. Also I'm pretty sure the components on the Fuji are nicer than on the Windsor.
Congrats on your bike ka12na.

Yeah, no comparison. The hubs on the Fuji are Formula, I didn't think the Hour hubs were that nice.

that's all you need.

good for you. don't pay any attention to the haters. they're just jealous because they spent a thousand dollars more for a bike that does the same thing.

no, I didn't ride it in the sand.
changed the seat, seatpost, stem, bars, tires, crank & bb, cog. Oddly, it came w/ no lockring, so I put one on. It was fun to slowly upgrade it and learn about the components, and it's a blast to ride...it's my "city bike".
why'd you go for the fuji over the iro?
the fuji track will definitely total you $100 less than a decent iro setup

i've been riding mine hard for almost six months now and the only thing i've replaced is the tires and the chainring, because i wanted to run a smaller gear. everything else is holding up fine, so brand names and cool points aside, i'm still fine with my bike. i ran some chopped drops on there for a while, but realized they were crap and put the fuji ergos back on there. i'd say for the price you pay for it, it's a great setup. not that i have experience with other bikes... yet

i agree-- the first time i saw high quality digital photos of my bike i was like "wow... that is really pretty." but my paintjob is already getting all busted on the top tube because of locking up on campus... so i might have to get a new paintjob in the next few months
also, even judging by the angle of that photo, i'd say your horns are really angled. but hey, if that's how you like them, then **** yeah.
finally, you asked about the reflectors. oh boy. i had a time with those things. to be honest, i think that once they're on there, they want them to stay on there. it took me a half hour, a pair of needle nose pliers, a few cuts, and some elbow grease to get those things out of my spokes. you know those anti-theft devices they put on clothes in nice stores? or an industrial strength plastic ziptie? imagine trying to get one of those off by hand. and there you have your task. basically i chewed up the plastic with the pliers until the two halves would separate. you could probably also use a nutcracker of some sort to just break the reflector, but even then i think you might have some trouble getting the pieces that surround the spoke to let go. just know that you're not going to get them off without breaking them, and that they're sketchy being on there anyway-- they're held in place by the tension of being stuck between spokes, and right when i got my bike home one came loose and got caught sticking sideways out of the wheel. bad times. so yeah, do what you can to get them off... if you still want to run reflectors, put your own, trustable ones on there.
anyway, welcome to the fuji track family... i'd say most kids that ride them are pretty happy with them.

I had to change my rear hub coz my bike shop stripped it... we don't get many fixed gears around these parts. Anyways decided to just go for it and change to top of the line DA + Tubulars since I had to rebuild the wheels anyway, and it was night and day difference. The stock hubs robs you of so much power, with the DA hubs I'm practically gliding. So when the time comes, you're going to have a blast upgrading the wheelset.
Those hubs and bb on the Fuji are really the pits. But they make you a better rider:)

Right on. Supporting the LBS is worth the little extra cost in the long run, even if just for the principle.

rock on with the fujis... i'm still in love with my 04 (especially after replacing a bunch of parts)... one thing, i heard something about some sort of 06 recall of the fujis for a defect. Did yours have the defect? was it fixed? it may be something to look into just to be safe.

The defect was the lockring.

nope, the parts are (nearly) identical down to the "Alloy track (Flip/Flop)" hubs and the " 32H DRX2000 Aero Track DoubleWall" rims.
The only difference i can see is the crank. Truvativ on the Windsor, RPM on the Fuji. though RPM cranks are made by Truvativ..... or is it the other way round?

Yeah Celaphaiz. I actually printed up the article and gave it to the LBS. It was a defective cog and lockrings that came on stock 06's. They replaced it with a Dura Ace cog / Lock ring with absolutely no problems.
One of the mechanics at this LBS (Syracuse Bicycle) used to race track so he's been a major help in educating me some more about track bikes and misc. stuff.

Well the thing is about that.. Formula hubs came on the 05' Models, but not anymore on the 06's. :( BUT! I still love my bike, haha. :)

That's a beautiful bike! Althought those mousestash are a bit doofy lookin'! I think it makes your bike look funny, not in a negative way, but it's more of a unique look with the Brooks. o.O
LBS ftw!
