Fifty Plus (50+) - messing with mc's

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
In addition to riding a bike, I also ride a motorcycle. In fact I generally ride more miles on that than on the bike. Of course, I spend many more hours on the bike. As any others who also ride mc's know, it's common when meeting another mc on the road to extend the arm down and out pointing at the road. This is a way to say hi. As an expirement, I've taken to doing this even when I'm on the bike and meeting a mc. It is amusing to see the reactions I get. Frequently ignored, occasionally aknowledged and often rewarded with a double take or look of surprise. (As I get less young, I get more easily amused) So for those with an inquiring minds, give it a shot, in fact we might apply for a gov't grant for a study. I'm sure that there is money to be had!
Great tip and can't wait to try it. Around here we share a lot of the same roads so will be interesting to see the reactions.
Hey great thread! Maybe if we started wearing leathers instead of jerseys the cagers would think twice about messing with us. My imagination is running wild with images of cyclists wearing leathers. What would we use as club names...

rck,
I have ridden M/C's for 40 years and put on over 10,000 miles a year now. When on the CB-1100F, I always give a friendly tap of the horn as I pass BI-cyclists. As a bicyclist (decked out in Spandex and Phonak team jersey) I always give "the wave" to passing motorcyclists ("bikers"). Seems that even the loudest flat blackest Harley dudes often recognize "the wave" and smile and wave back.
I think it's cool and shows that all of us two-wheelers share common ground. Lord knows we share common "enemies!"

Hey great thread! Maybe if we started wearing leathers instead of jerseys ...Hoo boy! An excuse to dig my old flat track racing leathers out of the closet! An my steel shoe . . . 'cept I don't think that would stay on the pedal very well . . . .
Seriously, I always nod or wave to motorcyclists. Never thought about 'the' wave though - - isn't that mostly a Harley thing?
Another thing: when I'm trail riding in a group and come across mtn bikers coming the other direction on the trail, I still instinctively sit up a bit and raise my left arm (right-turn-signal style) to let the folks behind know about a rider up (and the oncoming to more riders behind me). They probably wonder what the heck I'm doing. Just habit because it was the universal signal in dirt biking (and not a bad one if more people used it mtn biking I think).
