So I was installing a speedometer on one of my beaters today when somehow the little philips screw that tightens the mounting bracket to the handlebars just wouldn't thread. So I kept turning the screwdriver without thinking, and eventually the screw head became rounded out, I couldn't turn the screwdriver. I had to use a pair of pliers to get the screw back out.

Now I'm stuck with a $30 speedometer, minus the screw. Any ideas on how to find a replacement? Can't buy a new bracket for $20, that's just a waste.

If the bracket isn't damaged, go to a hardware store and get a new screw.

Cat Eye bracket mounting bracket bolts are M3 x 15mm long. Any well equipped hardware or home store should have one. If the bracket's threaded brass bushing is also damaged, buy a matching nut.

Great, thanks a lot. I'll stop by Home Depot this afternoon.

Zip ties won't hold firmly enough to keep the cyclometer head from rotating on the bars. If they worked, Cat-Eye would use them.

Doesn't mean it's better than a screw.

Problem with the screw is it doesn't work well with oversized bars. To get it to mount properly you have to slide the ring so far outward that it interferes when your hands are in the on top position. CatEye gives you a few extra baby zip ties that work great to secure the computer snug up against your stem.

New Cateyes mount via zip ties.
For the fork blade signal pick up or the handlebar mount for the head?

Both, comes with a rubber mount and then the 2 ties for the computer.

I also had the problem mentioned above of older lights not fitting newer bigger bars. Luckily the light I had, they sell a newer larger bracket for.

I have a current Cat-Eye Enduro 8 and the head mounting bracket has the old-style clamping screw but the band has a zip-tie type length adjustment so it fits both "standard" and "oversize" bars.

Sorry, duplicate posting. The forum is giving trouble again.

Micro Wireless I have is zip ties on both, will be interesting to see if they continue with this method.

The Velo 5 is a new model too and it also uses the wire ties for sensor and the unit. We'll see what happens when the other models get replaced by new sku's.

Cateye has really good customer support, send them an email and they will probably send you a replacement part for a small charge or even for free.

They helped me out by sending me a free replacement part once, You can't beat service like that.
