Why is it that my conversion gets 3x dirtier than my road bike? While I ride my conversion everyday (commuting) I usually ride my nice bike the same distance on the weekends, so I don't think it is a usage thing.
I would think that with less stuff to spread grease and grime and whatnot, my fixed would be cleaner, but the chain and rear wheel get disgustingly filthy in a rather short period of time.
It's only the rear wheel, though. The front wheel (even with a brake) stays nice and shiny.

you live in flordia, how dirty can it get..

well that beach air is really salty. messed up my bike last time i was down near the beach. :(

Mine get dirty at the same rate as far as I can tell..but my conversion is white, while my road bike is black, so the conversion looks dirtier. However, I tend to clean my conversion more often, because its easier to wipe it down without the derailers and other gizmos on there. So its really just a perception thing.

It's not the number of miles, but the number of hours. That commuter is out there every day. It makes sense to me that if you ride one bike 10 miles a day 5 days a week that it would get dirtier than the one you ride 50 miles, but only twice a week. Especially if you wipe both down once a week.

Also, where do you ride each bike? I noticed the same thing, then I realized that the fix gets ridden on car roads a lot more than the roadie, so it picks up more oily, sticky road grime.
