Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Great bike shops in New York City?

I'll be visiting NYC in a couple of weeks. What bike shops there carry single speed hubs and other gear?
Any shops I shouldn't miss?

trackstar for fixed bling.
nyc velo for high-end bikes, good selection of clothing and nice guys.
conrad's if it's open (closed on sundays).
the bikecult place on ridge st.
king kog in brooklyn just over the williamsburg br.

trackstar, king kog. king kog is a little smaller, but still good people.

Sid's, Conrad's and Toga for roadie gear.

Agree with all, but Conrad's is not much to look at. They don't really have a big space with lots of bling. As much as it pains me to admit it, if you want to see a whole crapload of HOTASS (road) frames in the flesh, R&A in Brooklyn on 5th ave. is the best place I know of. Even if they are a bunch of ******s there.

I'd go to Velo just to hang. They have a nice couch in the back by the mechanics area to just chill on. Good folk.

You're obviously going to go to Trackstar, right? That is where you will inevitably meet a bf-er at some point if that's something you're interested in.

i've been going to R&A a bit recently since it's pretty close to my place, and man... those folks suck. if you aren't wearing spandex, middle aged, and looking to drop $5000 on something carbon you aren't ****, especially if you're looking to buy parts or tools and do something yourself. i was in there once and a sales guy walked by a woman and said "i haven't forgotten you." and the woman responded "well i'm about to forget you!" i gave her a high five!

trackstar, bikeworks is a must... velo's nice, but not a lot of track stuff. Conrads is okay, nothing special. King kog if you can happen to catch them when they're open. R&A is definitely the spot for bling sighting... you'll wish you had a huge wad of cash when you step in, but be prepared to be ignored.

If you're looking for parts, then trackstar, bikeworks, or king kog is your best bet.

oh, and i was walking down third yesterday and walked by a new store space that had a buncha high end road bikes in it, but nothing really showing what the store was unless it was part of Crunch Gym or something. all i could make out was an orbea.

I went past that same spot and was confused as hell. Took as some strange ad for the gym, but I hope that I am wrong.

where is R&A?

R+A is on 5th Avenue Brooklyn. Great, great store. Ask for Felix. And hit Gorilla coffee down the block for the best coffee in Brooklyn. And Trackstar is a must

when you're at trackstar, take a turn around the corner onto first ave and walk up to nyc velo on 1st ave and e 5th st (or somewhere around there). nice store catering mostly to the cross and road market, but they've always got a nice selection of clothes and bags in stock.

R&A is very, very high end road specific. Do they even carry fixed gear stuff? Not sure.

it's down the block from my place. as has been discussed here (and extesively on craig's list) not the most fixie friendly shop in the world. i never go there, even though it's a block away. they lost my potential business quickly. they do have a ton of really nice frames though, a crazy colnago track in the window too.

Stuvesant was the place ! PERIOD!! Now A BIKE SHOP on 14th st off 9th Ave in the City.

Mr. C's in Sunset Park is great if you find yourself deep into Brooklyn.

trackstar does great labor, and they have tons of stuff to ogle, and they get mad props for throwing and sponsoring events, but their parts and frames are a tad pricey. I generally go there for things like cog and headset instalations. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned bicycle station in brooklyn. great shop with decent selection of parts, and good prices. Bikeworks is awesome, especially if you are looking for obscure stuff like 600A innertubes and suntour cassettes. If you find your way uptown, check out New York Cyclist on 110th & 8th. They have some cool stuff kicking around, but I won't tell you what.

I also gotta throw props to Bicycle Station, these are my local guys, they always seem to have a line out the door, but it's probably 'cuz they are so nice and resonably priced. R&A has way too much of an elitest attitude to ever get my buisness again.

B's Bikes on Driggs and Eckford in Greenpoint is low-key and awesome...

It doesn't have much, but its got some goodies in hiding. It also has a youth program element to it, which is sort of interesting.

I don't know how R&A stays open.
I had a friend drop major $ there and they STILL treated him like a$$.
And they sold him a bike that didn't fit

they do a lot of mail order and internet business and they also cater a lot to triatheletes.

I was there last weekend and they had a new guy. Stubby short bastard who got annoyed cuz I wanted to try on gloves before I bought them. He talked to everyone like he was a cycling god and I bet he rides one day a week if at all.

To R&A's credit though, Pancho there is a good guy, helpful and knowledgeable, so is felix, if you catch him on his good days.
