During a short visit at my LBS I didn't lock up my bike, I put it next to his repairs outside the shop.

Returning outside my bike was gone, I ran to the next two intersections both ways, no sight of my blue Paletti. Running back I shouted to the owner that my bike was stolen and a man across the street said that he saw some guys running down the street with a bike.

The shop owner told me to get in his car that was just outside, we took of and after only a couple of blocks we say a guy going really slow and wobbly, thats HIM!

I jumped out of the car with my ulock in hand and the kid got of the bike and took of. I ran after him and he rally didn't have a chance, no traffic, no people on the streets, nowhere to hide. After two blocks I shout to him that "I can run much faster and longer that you, just give up!". And he stopped...

In the anger of chasing the criminal I decide to bust his head with the u-lock as soon I get to him, but when I grab his shirt and get a look at him, the kid is not more than 15, and I just couldn't. I hold him up against a house and make sure he understands that he could get a lock in his face at any time if he doesn't play along. I explain to him that stealing from bikers is really wrong and that next time, he will steal from the wrong guy that would totaly destroy him.

How great was not the LBS that helped me track down the criminal! You are the best.

Did you turn the punk over to the cops? Or did you let him go?

Good on 'ya for getting your bike back.

This is my favorite part. Either the world's best bluff, or the fact that he could yell it intelligibly while running was proof.

My favorite part was the bike shop owner jumping in a CAR to chase the thief...
I was hoping he was going to have some super duper bikes for the 2 of them to jump on to make the chase...

I couldn't have walked away without applying a knee to the groin.
I commend your restraint.

Enjoy

this story is chock full of irony. Your supposed to use the Ulock to lock the bike up, not threaten the thief. Yea i understand the sometimes "i'll only be a minute, i dont need to lock up" I just find the irony utterly amusing.

Yeah, im so proud that I didn't tear him up. He was not given to the police, I kind of regret that. My phone was dead but I should have asked someone to call the cops, I belive it could be a nice wake up call for the parents.
