Trade that Truck for a Bicycle
I am fortunate to live within three miles of my office, and unfortunate in that Ga. 140 --- which is most of the road I have to travel to work --- has no safe shoulder for biking or sidewalks for walking. But after the first gasoline price hike, I found a way to commute on my mountain bike through utility line easements that parallel this otherwise dangerous highway.
While my commute would be so much easier with bike lanes and a traditional road bike, I relish the challenge and the exercise, in addition to the privilege, of cycling on fat tires through suburban flora and fauna before and after my desk job. My light truck now gets used only in inclement weather and when client meetings are scheduled.
Gas savings have been substantial, I feel better about lowering our reliance on politically and economically volatile fossil fuel energy, and the workout gives me a physiological boost at the beginning and end of every day. Quite a silver lining.

Good letter, leads by example, not preachy, and touches on all of our favorite talking points. My favorite part is that he uses utility easements to mountain bike to work. I need to find a picture of his commute somewhere. Roswell area for the Atlantans.
