Can a 9 speed MTB wheel be converted to 7 speed? A change of freewheel or cassette or are the hubs speed spacific? Any chainline problems with that?
Thanks in advance...

I don't know why you'd want to do it but it's rather simple. 9-speed hubs will take a 7-speed cassette along with a 4.5 mm spacer to fill in the extra width. The spacers are available at some bike shops and by mailorder at Bike Tools Etc. among others. You will need 7-speed (or friction) shifters too.
