Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

That means he's "only" been riding 7600 miles a year or 20 miles daily. Pshaw.

While certainly not a "steel vs. everything else" debate breaker, this is certainly impressive- both on the rider's part and the bike's part. I'd love to see a picture of it.

Joking about the stealing part.

German cyclist elated as British return stolen bike

A German cyclist who has ridden 335,000 miles in almost 44 years on the same bike and then had it stolen in Britain celebrated Wednesday after it was recovered.

Heinz Stucke had just arrived in Portsmouth, southern England, on the latest leg of a global cycle ride which he began in 1962 when thieves stole his bike as he slept in his tent.

Distraught, he appealed to police and media, telling the Portsmouth News: "I would do anything to get my bike back, I'm emotionally attached to it."

He told BBC radio Wednesday he was rejoicing after police told him the bike had been found abandoned in a park.

"I ... expected it to be found, because it's not a flashy one, it's not an expensive one," he said.

The bike, an old-fashioned, black, German-built three-gear cycle, has taken Stucke through more than 200 countries and into the record books as the world's most traveled cyclist since he set out from his home in Hovelhof, Germany, in 1962.

I thought I had read that he was given a new bike recently to finally replace his old one, which is being displayed somewhere???

Good question. I guess he probably felt more comfortable with the old 3 speed. It wouldn't surprise me, those bikes were plush.

I'm sure the folks at Bike Friday are not happy that a beat up 3 speed is getting all this free media. What they didn't realize is that used up 3 speed had much more emotional value than any Bike Friday could ever have. I had a Schwinn Speedster 3 speed years ago and even though it was a tank, the bike had a plush ride.

If the bike stolen was his Bike Friday, I'm certain he never would have seen it again.

Well that's the Chavs in England for you nothing is F@%$in sacred in this country some people would steal your breath if they could. This is what saddens me about England I've seen the police in acion here more than when I lived in South Africa and that includes Johannesburg the crime hotspot of the world.
