Introductions - Yet another Atlantan

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and say "hey" to everyone.
I don't have a ton of cycling experience, although I used to periodically take an old Trek mountain bike up 60 degree inclines and into waist-deep mud puddles when I was younger :).
Although I've been out of the game for a good ten years now, something came over me last week and I have this undying urge to get into road cycling. I'm planning on visiting a bike shop next weekend for a fitting and knowing my uncontrollable spending habits, I'll probably be the proud owner of a new bike very soon.
Also, if anyone is interested, I was in the bookstore the other day and came across a great, high-level book on almost every aspect of biking - it's called, appropriately, The Complete Bike Book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0756614279/sr=1-1/qid=1147288011/ref=sr_1_1/103-1972377-5469416?%5Fencoding=UTF8).
Anyway, thanks for what looks to be a terrific resource and I hope to see some of you around!
Hi jimday and welcome.
Just road biking? No bike commuting?
What bike(s) are you looking at?

Thanks Ron.
Not really sure about the bike yet...probably an entry level Trek 1000 or Specialized Allez...something like that. I'm hoping to test out a few pretty soon.
Come to think of it, I do only live two miles from work, so if the weather cooperates, maybe I will try biking to work.
I think I saw a post yesterday that linked to some kind of Atlanta Bike Association that offered a "biking in traffic" class - I definitely plan on taking that too in hopes that I don't get ran over right away.

Welcome to the forums!
I'm a suburban ATL commuter (Gwinnett Co.). Rain or shine, I'm out there.

Rain or shine...that's dedication.
I'm curious about that though - what do you do if it's raining? Do you just wear a pancho?
Also, what kind of bike do you have?
I love the idea of being able to bike instead of sitting in traffic, but in my opinion, it doesn't seem as practical here as say, somewhere like Amsterdam.

Hi John. How are you? Haven't heard from you lately. Still at the same job?
Remind me. How many miles is it one-way? 16? 18?
Rain or shine. That IS dedication.

That's me. :) I work for the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign (http://www.atlantabike.org) and we teach Effective Cycling classes (http://www.atlantabike.org/ec.html).
We have one more basic class (May 20 at Stone Mountain) and one more commuter class (May 27 at Atlantic Station). Don't want to scare you but I'm teaching both.
Then nothing until September. Yeh, I know. Not my decision. Seems that most "new" cyclists don't want to take a class in the summer and sweat or in January and freeze.
Send me an email (atlantabikeclass@mindspring.com) or PM if you're interested in either class or just want more info.

Urban Fixed-gear warrior here. Last Friday of the month 6:00 pm is Critical Mass. We meet at Woodruff Park downtown on Peachtree. It keeps growing and expanding awareness, and we even had a police escort part of the way last month! Welcome to your new addiction...
Go to AVX, and check out the new/used bike selection. Good people, small one-man operation. Cheers.

Welcome to BF'S, jim
This a great forum for persons who love cycling. Be sure to take advantage of the search function to find answers to your questions. Believe me, everything "under the sun" regarding cycling is mentioned here. Feel free to ask specific questions about purchases you are planning to make in the near future. There is a commuting forum where many meet for everyday discussion.
Nice to have you aboard.

I saw a critical mass moving down Piedmont one evening. Was it you guys? One guy was riding this bicycle that was very tall. I will try to join for the ride soon.
Good to see all the Atlantans here, I am finaly finished my move to the area. I live in unincorporated Lawrenceville(Gwinnett Co) and work in Winder(Barrow Co). Going to work myself up for that commute some day. I had an accident, sudden stop durring a landing and hit the bar withgood force and to add insult to injury, I then developed epididmytus and have not been cleared to ride again yet. Hope to see y'all on the roads and trails soon.

I live in Marietta and work in Roswell. Majority of my riding is done on Silver Commet and Red Top Mountain. I still want to try Stone Mountain and the Budwieser Plant rides. Anyone on here going to do the 24hrs of Adrenaline race?

I'm not, but I'm a roadie... I'm travelling until the end of June, but after that, I'll be doing as many local centuries as I can.
