I maybe moving to the Burlington, VT area and wondered if there was an active cyclocross series in the area or the state. Google only seems to have information for 2004 or earlier and not being the season for it USAC doesn't have much information listed on their website.

hey there,
to answer your question, yes, there is cx in VT. not alot of races but there may be more this season due to its growing popularity. The Putney/West Hill (http://westhillshop.com/) shop has alot of strong racers and they put on a race or two last year i believe. the good thing is that you wont be far from a ton of races that happen in upstate ny, ct, and all over mass. you can race every weekend 2wice if you want to....and you can also go to montreal which has a bunch of cx races as well. i think you'd be psyched to live in burlington because there's lots of great cycling up there and throughout the rest of vermont. if you are into mtb there's tons of great riding.
you can always keep track of races via www.bikereg.com.
(coincidentally, i may be moving to burlington as well...i hope i do!)
PS. check this out: http://www.westhillshop.com/cross.shtml
Vermont cycling is fantastic !
But.............:( The real, dedicated-year 'round shops are few and far between.
Althought there are plenty of new bike shops they are just bare minimimum so they
can be packed up and changed over to ski/sno-bored in Oct & Nov.
My LBS(?) Battenkill sports is 32 miles away and they dont even have a lot of stuff for
what Im into or Cyclo -X .
Get all yer stuff before you move here and develop a good repoire' with an internet
OBS!! ;p

Burlington has a TON of bike shops. Old Spokes home is my favorite up there, for niche oriented stuff, but Earls, and the Ski Rack are also good general purpose bike shops with huge inventory.
I don't know where the cross races are, but I'm watching this thread thinking I might want to try it out in the fall/winter.

Here's the Quebec race calender. From where you guys are, Bromont, Sutton, Abercorn & Sherbrooke should not be too long of a drive. You guys are probably going to be a lot closer to the venues than I will. However, it is more like mountain cross in Quebec. Plenty of single track if you like that type of stuff!
On a funnier note, you can see me defend last place!
bumping up this thread to let y'all know about a big cx event in VT this sept. check it out:

Ahh... my LBS gets a mention!
There are quite a few guys into CX here, and serious about it. There is the yearly race the WHS sponsors... and an active club scene. (see below)
That said, I'm also moving to Burlington. I don't cross it up, but I do love N Vt. for the road rides.
We had a Crit here in Burlington, when was it, last year? Some scary fast stuff. :)

Part of the Green Mountain Stage Race? Yeah, fast. I course marshalled on the circuit race and the road race - both of those were fast too... especially the RR finish atop App Gap.
can anyone point me to a good race oriented club in the burlington area? specifically one with crossers and mtb-ers? thanks....

Green Mountain Bicycle Club (http://www.thegmbc.com/)... most of the website is for road, crits, TT - but I'm sure there are people there that MTB and Cross.
these guys host week night cross races on super hard courses. and there holding the first UCI race this season. its about 6 miles out of burlington so i ride there.

You know, I had one of the nost fun races of my life at Catamount. Great course. Tall grass. I remember one really nasty runup with a barrier at the bottom. Fun.
This is probably the most comprehensive list... I'm sure it will be continually (spelling?) updated

How did the race go with a cx bike in a mtb race?
How did the race go with a cx bike in a mtb race?
i got pretty schooled, but i expected that as i have done a bunch of mtb races on my crosser. i just go out and try to get a good workout and i'm not so concerned with being competitive. the downhills are the hardest if they are rocky, rooty, and technical stuff can be tricky too. but i could make up serious ground on the flats!
i'm just looking fwd to cross season...
