It was probably expensive when it was new. Somewhere near the top of the Peugeot lineup.

No where near top of the line, those are solid mid-range components. If the wheels are true and the frame is unbent its a decent bike. no more no less. BUt it does look like those ar sew-up tires. They are expensive and flat prone. In the old days they were about the only decent tires, now days there are a lot of good alternatives. If they are sew-ups, I would not buy the bike unless you have expereince with this type of tire, if you do have the experience, you probably would bot have posted this.

The Peugeot logo on the top tube places it around 1983. It's mid-range and may have a Maillard Helicomatic rear hub and that's not good.

I wasn't kidding about my Hungarian being rusty. My maternal grandmother spoke nothing but Hungarian. Actually, I hardly remember a word. I do remember that my last name, Kerekes means something like wheelwright. I should have been a wheel builder. :D

Anyway I've bought it for 80 euros. It seemed to be in a decent condition. was very comfty to ride on. The tires I'll get changed tomorrow. The shifter works well, but I might ask for advise on the brakes from the local guy at the bikeshop. I think it needs new ammm dunno the word, that 'long metal rope'.
The frame is really light, i was suprised.

I am really excited, this is my first roadbike style bycicle. And it rides so well, I live on the top of a hill which i used to manage in 15 min with two stops with the bike i had. With this I arrived home in 12 min, and I wasn't winded at all, and didn't even think on stopping to catch my breath. It was amaizing what a simple bike can mean. Really, it was a blast.
