Dahon Speed D7

Cycling with friends last sunday , one of them remarked on how much the the seat post flexed.
Is it designed to flex? I thought aluminium was supposed to be very stiff and and flexing would cause it to weaken. I don't want to end up in a heap in the road!
I weigh 200lbs which whilst on the heavy side is within the suggested weight limit for the bike.
