I have to opportunity to buy a set of NOS 24 hole Suntour superbe pro track hubs for $250. Is this a good deal?
I asked on SS/FG, and somebody suggested that Superbe Pro track hubs were made by Sanshin, who later sold their tooling to Suzue, making the Superbes the exact same as Suzue Promax. I have reason to doubt this opinion, so I'm wondering what you C&V folk can tell me about this.

just because it was accompanied by snark, and was in the context of a ss/fg 'cold war' between those who love promax (them) and those who know that promax has really spotty quality control, and that some of their hubs suck (me et al). Also, I don;t know too much about machining, but I would imagine that its more complicated that 1 set of tooling = 1 unchangable hub. I mean, promax is fix-fix, whereas suntour is single-fix.

the only thing I can say to help is I have a set of Suntour superbe pro hubs and they are as nice if not nicer than campy records, this is just road stuff. the finish is hi polish and beautiful, though they did suffer some corrosion which mostly was removed with liberal use of autosol. I have yet to see a sansin, sunshine, or suzue hub even coming close to this quality but I may not have seen what their top quality goods.

I have to say that my superbe hubs are far smoother than any pair of record hubs. It just seems that they did a nice job with the sealed bearing on those. If 24hole is the sizing you need then I say go for it and buy them otherwise why not the promax? Nice quality sealed hubs maybe not up to par with superbe but probably won't know the difference.

Don't know about the price, but I have a pair of Suntour Superbe track hubs and they are the business.
Maybe Suntour did sell their tooling. That does not mean that the finish and tolerances of Suzue hubs is to Suntour standard.
It is the same tooling from Suntour that Suzue had made their NJS hubs from.
Father ran Suntour and Son at Suzue. Suntour folded ,Suzue recieved the tooling. Now both companies are gone.
I have had both and both are awesome high end hubs.
Both companies had crappy low end models. That is why it is low end.
Were will it go or be done with the tooling, is anybody's guess.

I've had some very nice Sansin hubs. In my experience, at least, they were always very smooth.
