Looks like a great wealth of information here.

I'm a native NY'er, moved here w/ my wife ~2 years ago. I'm looking to start commuting for two reasons- trying to fit some exercise in my busy schedule (one year old at home, another on the way in 3 months:eek: ) and cut back on these crazy gas prices.

I'm a PA, and two of the surgeons I work with ride (and recommend) Redline....but I'm still learning/doing my homework. Haven't owned a bike since college (Iron Horse mountain bike).

Looking forward to starting the commute!

Are you riding to work on Pill Hill, like at Swedish, Harborview or VM? Where are you commuting from?

Coming from Arbor Heights west seattle to VM.....

I just went to an informational session w/ Cascade Bike Club.....my next step is to hunt the bike shops (been recommended to Montlake and Recyled Cycles).

Any suggestions for a new commuter?

Gregg's Greenlake Cycle, especially at their two locations around Green Lake, probably has the largest in-stock selection of bicycles in the city. Depending on how you feel about REI, their flagship store downtown also has a nice selection, and all their house-brand bicycles are 15% off right now up until the 14th.
