Is a Firenze GL5000 worth being a parts bike?

I fished it out of a dump for the front wheel of another bike (I grabbed the tire of a Ross, quick release, and placed it on the Firenze due to it having a seat I could use for another bike.)

I was thinking of stripping its fork, calipers, caliper levers, & pedals (but not the crank) as the bike itself is in great condition.

Sure -- why not? I've parted out a couple of them, and even sold one for $80! They were giveaways, so most of them never saw much use. The cottered crank was sort of an anachronism, but they're good sturdy beaters.

My LBS guy was telling me a while back and I can't remember now. It was some big stereo place over in Daly City, I think.

I guess you're not old enough to remember.

I bought my wife a car stereo there and got a bike. She wouldn't ride it because it was too heavy for her to carry it down the front steps, so we sold it.

I think it was something along the lines of Twin Peaks Stereo in Daly City. I only know this because I was talking to my LBS guy about 'em.

He's one or two owners for the shop - and this guy knows a lot about a lot of bikes. Thank you for the replies!

PS: I'm certainly not old enough to remember, hahaha.

I was working in a bike shop in Palo Alto when that stereo store was giving away those Firenzes. True PsOS. We would run and hide when someone brought one into the shop for repair as it seemed just tightening a bolt would result in snapping the darn thing off. But of course they had the Italian cache of that name!

Funny, I vaguely remember them giving away bicycles, but I sure remember the radio ads.
