Recreational & Family - Child Bike Seats - recommendations

Hello,

I'm new here and doing some research for a bike seat for my daughter who is 20 months old, you know to ride on the back........

I'm looking to hear from you guys to see if you can recommend a good seat and maybe give me some insight on what types of features to look for etc....

I like the Topeak Babysitter. It is expensive, but well made. Kettler makes good stuff too. Aviod the cheap Bell stuff at box stores.

I love my Topeak babyseat. It was fairly expensive $100-135, I think...but installs cleanly on my Trek Nav 300. I initially tried some cheaper other brand's seat and had problems installing it because it clamped on the frame near the rear tire and my frame diameter was larger than the clamps were made for...what a waste of time that was putting that whole thing together and not getting it to fit.

The Topeak seat snaps onto a separate rack that mounts above your rear wheel. You can remove the seat when not in use and use the rack by itself. The rack mounts on the mounting points that were already on my bike frame (look for little holes that the bolts fit into). Very neat--I never even noticed those mounting points before I got the Topeak.

If I didn't use a trailer, I'd get some kind of cocoon-type seat like this Bell or the topeak mentioned. This would seem to protect the kid more if you fell over or something.

When you have the child in the seat dont dismount from the bike by swinging you leg over behind you. It is as embarassing as getting stuck in clipless pedals, and can hurt your child - I did it once with my daughter. She now uses a trailer with her daughter.
