Hmm would it be possible to custom mount a bullet lamp to the fender as those old French road bikes did. I was thinking get the after market fenders on the road bike. Drill a hole in the top of the fender and attach the lamp and bracket via a very short bolt with a thin nut. If nut thickness became an issue I suppose the nut side of the bolt and nut set could go on top of the fender. The only issues I see are whether the fender is too thin across and whether the bolt will rub on top of the tire. I figure the wire leading to the lamp could be threaded along the underside of the fender and protected from spray via a casing of electrical-type waterproof tape. hmmm tricky I think but possible? I'm not sure yet.

I don't have the brazing and welding equipment so those options (which the peugeot co probably did) aren't avail. to me.

Ahh sounds good. Glad to see something like this is possible. I think a chrome bullet lamp would go nicely on the old road bike, especially if I can land nice chrome or stainless fenders.

I think it would be possible to take the old peugeot style and build a very streamlined touring bike. I think what ideally might work would be a set of chrome or stainless fenders with a special wire channel tube built into the inside of the fender. The tube would be very small to hold just the basic wires for the lamps. You could play around with the wiring by pushing and pulling them through the tubes. The rear light would be a round lamp about the size and style of the old Raleigh roadster fender reflectors. However it would be much thinner and built right into a round hole in the fender. It wouldn't stick out much in the back at all. The front lamp would be the earlier mentioned bullet built onto the front fender. Again, the inside of the fender would hole a small metal tube protecting electrical wire for the lamp. Hi and low beam controls would be rigged to a very basic flicker switch mounted on the handle bars (you know the basic on/off mini switches you can get at a hardware store). Dynohub style gen would be nice as it would be frictionless. The bike would have the classic Peugeot-style rear rack and maybe for fenders those nice Japanese hammered ones. Brakes would be the dual cut off type ones the french used on certain bikes (you know the ones with one set of levers on the bar horizontal and one set of levers on the drop loop, each acting independently). I think a funky mirror for the bars would be nice too. Maybe a chrome or plastic streamlined bullet-shaped mirror to mesh with the theme of the bullet headlamp. hmmm these peugeots as a base have some potential...

On the side the wire runs through, the rollunder is partially crimped every couple of inches to keep the wire from dropping out; the holes in the fender where the wire passes through are fitted with a brass eyelet -- although a rubber grommet would do just as well.

My UE-8 originally came with a rectangular Soubitez headlamp -- which was lost long before I bought it. At the moment I've got a '70s torpedo-shaped Union headlamp on it. It looks pretty cool. Not right, but cool.

Still looking for a nice set up, and now I'll have to wait till I can get a nice place to store it. I have a cheaper Japanese knock-off of a Peugeot I may try some ideas out on. Hmmm gets me thinkin

Nice ride, yeah something like that. I've been avoiding the internet for it somewhat because the shipping would be heinously expensive. I think it cost me $75 to ship a basic Raleigh once. I've been trying to dig one up locally in the DC area. You'd think they'd turn up on craigslist or in ads more often.
