Touring - Is it the new black?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is touring the new singlespeed? Or the new fixed? Is white the new black (again)? Definitive answers from Google Trends:

It actually looks like singlespeed is the new touring and fixed never was much of anything.

I see you have been playing around with one of Google's new toys. :)

who cares
I don't, and I didn't mean to be serious. There was that 'is touring trendy' thread a while ago on this forum, so I gave it a try.
Entering 'bicycling' in Google Trends shows a nice yearly peak in the beginning of June. I guess that is the beginning of the season for a lot of people... there are not enough googling Australians to generate a English-language peak in the beginning of their summer.
is this thread the new
don't care kthxby ?
Alarming news! Bike touring and singlespeeds are nothing compared to ice cream! And I have a chart to prove it.

I sure hope not.
It would royally suck if bicycle touring became just another mainstream, "gotta be seen doing it", fad.
I mean... can you imagine the pink powderpuff bicycle of say a Paris Hilton? (of course she'd be CC touring, with wardrobe sag van)

I see on average 20 people on fixed-gear machines everyday in Toronto. These are generally "cool" looking 20 somethings. In comparison, I see maybe 5 true touring bikes every week, usually carrying a very "uncool" middle aged dad-like character. No, it's not a trend. Our sub-culture is safe... for now.
