Road Cycling - Sunglasses for Cycling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

These are the best sunglasses that I have ever used for cycling. They do look a little weired, but they are great for keeping the wind out of your eyes. Another plus is that they never drop down because the helmet locks them in place. Here is Oakley's web page for the sunglasses: Oakley Over the Top (http://oakley.com/ostore/eyewear/overthetop/)

Unless you want to look like a fruit....don't wear these glasses lol
I've seen em in a local sporting goods store.
The absolute ugliest glasses I've ever seen.

For those of you that don't go to the site ... here they are:

Personally I think your being a little too kind!
Unless you're David Millar...no...
Personally I rather have a fly in one eye and sweat dripping down in the other than wear those glasses....just my opinion.
My optician is carring a few of these, and I have to say that the first word that came to mind was "UGH!!!"

Here's what the medical experts say about sunglasses:

As as my eye doc says, "If you ain't wearing polarized sunglasses, you're wasting your time wearing anythin at all."

They look like an alien bra!
Hmmm... how much does a prescription lens adapter cost for that?

God meant us to wear regular glasses, otherwise he wouldn't have put our ears on the sides of our head.

I know that I said was would pretend I never saw this thread, but today I was riding on my rollers, I finished the 2000 tour de france, so I moved onto 2001. Low and behold David Milliar leaves the start for the prolog. What caught my attention was the fact that he was wearing the objects (I don't w ant to call the m sun glasses) disscused in this thread for the time trial  . The only thing I could think was, How much did Oakley have to pay him to get him to wear those.
-Matt-
otherwise he wouldn't have put our ears on the sides of our head
Van Gogh could have used these. ;)
We bought Rudy Project flip-ups. We never would have done, simply because of the 'hip, rad, and 00s' factor, but they are a great solution for people with prescription glasses. In fact, the "permanent" lenses in mine are my most recently replaced (but current scrip) lenses, cut down to fit. And bifocals to boot.
Now we only need one pair of glasses on rides, so we don't jeopardize our real ones through loss or damage.
Cheers...Gary

To intimidate the cagers on road rides!
I can't think of anybody that would wear "overthetop" glasses. Unless of course, they're being paid too.
I wear Oakley "M" Monster frames for almost every sports activity and driving. Got them with blue/yellow, dark grey and clear lenses, all with prescription lenses. They have been worth every penny to me.
PS.. My son said those glasses look stupid and uncool... sorry.

If you are serious, I'm sorry nobody seems to agree.
If you are joking, you're pretty funny!
The green things are cool. And by the way, the weirder you look on a bike, the better. That's what the whole bike gear business is about.
Personally, when I ride, I wear UVEX safety glasses that I buy at Super Wal-Mart optical shops for $7.95. They're so cheap that I buy a smoked pair and clear pair. That way, I swap entire glasses on the fly when I ride instead of stopping to swap lenses when the sun goes in or out.

The Medusa head thing from Oakley has to be for some strange S&M scene that the designers at Oakley are into maybe? They have been doing too many drugs it would seem........
Oakley makes some wierd crap. If their "normal" glasses weren't so nice I'd say they were a crappy company.

I think Harley Bikers would buy that wierd Medusa "hat".
When you are climbing a 15 km mountain 10% road under the sun and your face is wet like somebody is watering your head and the sweat is in your eyes, and you can't get off this stuff 'couse the helmet is over them....you stop take off the helmet and the sunglasses and put them into.....?
your back-pocket?... good luck Udinì!!!!

Why is that, I'm curious.... about to buy a pair of sunglasses, and don't want to make a mistake on the lenses...

Polarized sunglasses all but eliminate the reflective light of the sun that can damage your eyes.

When you go to the sunglass place of your choice, try a pair of polarized glasses. It will cut the glare dramatically and you will stand a better chance of not getting eystrain, cataracts, sun poisoning, etc.

Or ... if you don't want to worry about the problem of sunglass arms getting tangled with your helmet strap, you could go for a set of morpheus sunnies -

would hate to think how tight they have to be across the bridge of the nose - ouch !
Polarized wraparound Bolle's now on sale for $35 and $39 at Big 5 Sporting stores.

It may be worth bearing in mind that the more people who are laughing at you the more people who have seen you....
I think they're cool. They look like something Sandman might have worn.

I just got a pair of these Crews Triwear metal frame "safety" glasses and I love them!! I got them off the 'net for less than TEN BUCKS!! :D

I got a pair of the clear mirrored ones. They are great for riding just about any time. Think I'll get me another pair of the tinted ones to wear in real bright sunlight this summer. :)

Those seem INCREDIBLY cheap? Bargain!
Did a search for em, and found other similarly priced glasses, like this for example:-

I actually got a pair of those CODE 4's too! :D Don't Like EM!!! Lenses are WAY TOO BIG.....at least for me. Look really dorkie. Might be ok for a person with a fat head but just too big for me. :D I like the Crew's because they look really good and fit me very well also. IMO they look like much more expensive glasses.
I got mine from here.... http://www.tasco-safety.com/safety-glasses.html
I would highly recommend this guy. I didn't like the first ones I got from them so I sent them back and requested they exchange them for two different pair. They were going to be a little more expensive for the second set so I told them to call me or just charge the extra to my charge card. Well they just sent the second two pair and didn't even charge me any extra. Can't beat that. :)

In case your interested Belfast dude.....I asked about the other lenses available for the glasses in the pic above(Crews Triwear Metal) and just got a reply back. They told me both the "Fire" and the "Blue" lenses are actually gray tinted lenses with blue or red mirror finishes. I got one pair of the Smith & Wesson's the first time, that I thought were gonna be blue mirror lenses...... but they were actually TINTED BLUE!!! YUK!!! BAD!!!
I just this second ordered two more pair of the "Crews Triwear Metal"....HeHeHe. :) Got one pair of the "Fire" and one of the "Blue". Total(with shipping) was less than $22 :D I'm gonna have more freaking glasses than I know what to do with!!
My most recent purchased It's light on the face, comfy, blocks out sun, glare, wind, bugs etc.
Price $14.00

Bolle lens quality is great, like an eye bath every time you put 'em on. Good for driving, mountain sports etc. Style is personal, but I use the old Micro-Edge ones with a prescription insert, and the wrap is still good enough for quick downhills..... They're also size adjustable and come with interchangeable ear pieces.
I like my Rudy Projects, the price was a bit much but there is no way I'm wearing contacts. www.rudyrx.com
