Well finally after weeks of procrastination, I rode to work today!!!! It was only 5.5 miles, but I can take a nice long ride home. Man, it felt REALLY good. It was brisk this morning, around 45 degrees, I was exhilarated!!! I plan to start riding 3 days/week.

One problem....anyone have a cure for helmet hair????

:) :D ;) :p

Cheryl,

E-mail Junebride or Poptart, I think they can help.

My hair stays under a bandana.

Hey, glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like me when I started. It's great! :D

I've got to get Toni riding soon...

Cheryl,

You go girl!
Once you start commuting, you soon realize it's the only way to go!

Congrats! I'm sure helmet hair is different for girls then it is for the guys, do you wear your hair long? One of the girls i ride with just pulls her hair into a pony tail and puts the tail between the roc-loc and the helmet, works dandy.

Great job Cheryl!!!

We must be on the same wave length as I commuted twice this week. It was great. I took the back way (22 W to 513, across the mtn in Oldwick and then THE POTTERSVILLE road hill, down 206) It was gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous as you know how incredible Oldwick can be.

My work has a full gym and locker room so I take a shower and don't have to worry about helmet hair. I have, however, grown my hair long and one length for that very reason and can put it in a low pony tail which actually looks very professional. Slicked back like that and held in place with hair spray, no one can tell it's not the cleanest in the world. :)

See you REALLY soon.

Congrats Cheryl! As good a rider as you are I couldn't quite figure what was holding you back. Don't feel geeky about having a change of clothes at work and hair stuff. If you look around I bet you'll find a lot of your female colleagues run out to a gym at noon or before work.

Hey that's great, Cheryl! We don't have a shower or gym at work either, but I usually kind of half-way fix my hair before I go into work anyway. My hair is somewhat short, so I put some of that stuff called Bed Head Manipulator in my hair, and then when I get to work, hang my head upside down, and spray hair spray in it to make it spikey/full.

My sister told me the other day that she'd never get on the bike again, if she had to wear a helmet. After I finished telling her she was a "freak" (we tease each other quite a bit) ;), I told her I should build her a bike helmet similar to the Pope's Pope Mobile--bullet-proof glass and all! :D

Anyway, congratulations to your journey! I know I'm definitely less cranky when I ride to and from work!

Hi Cheryl!
Congrats on your commute! I started biking to work not too long ago, and I love it! Makes me look forward to going to work, but now I find myself looking at the clock in the afternoon and counting the time untill I can get back on my bike and wander home!
Have fun!

I love my job!!! I actually hate the weekends because I don't have to go to work then.

What do you do again? :)

I'm not an envious person--all that energy I guess got channeled into numerous other faults. But the closest I can get to envy is of somebody that actually loves their job. There are such people! But I have never been one of them. My hat (or helmet) is off to anybody that can really look forward to going to work, and I only hope the numbers increase, though in our society it looks highly unlikely.

Is it too late? Seriously....

With hindsight, I know NOW that I would have enjoyed being either of two things: (1) a veterinarian or (2) a musical instrument maker. I can't think of anything else.

But a lot of good it does to realize this at age 61, instead of 21.

Oh, well.

Shoot, don't get me wrong, I love my job! Customer support for the local ISP...we have good equipment and great customers, so it is a blast. Besides that, I am sitting here typing this, and the Boss figures I am hard at work!! I even reprogrammed the phone system so the background music is oldies rock, so life is good! But, life is just a little better when I am on one of my trusty Fujis'!!
Rock on Cheryl, have a blast on your commute! You will save so much on gas, you won't need that extra job soon!!

Man, I gotta agree with that! I really get all jazzed up when I am on my bike! As you know, I am still a newbie, but I just keep wanting to do more and more! I want to do 70 miles this weekend, my longest ride yet. Mentally, I have done the ride several times...now I just have to do it!
