Found a old gitane at a yard sale. question is witch model is it? it has intergrated derailer hanger with adjusting screws on rear drop outs. nervar cranks mavic module E rims . problem is it looks to have been repainted on the top tube, where the model name usually resides, according to the pics ive seen at the gitane web sight its a 83. the question is how can I tell without a model name??? any clues guy's?
thanks Robert

Oh yea, the sticker on the seat tube reads vitus 788 light tubes.
Rub paint thinner on the repaint to get down to the sticker and original clearcoat

the decals are not clear coated on the bike. I got some paint of and there is no sign of a name.
Please post some pictures when you can. The dropouts and the Vitus tubing indicate at least a mid-scale model. Gitane workmanship tended to be pretty good.

My Gitane Tour de France is my all-time favorite ride, but I can't agree with that statement. They're known for deep file marks, bad paint and even crooked lug points and mine is no exception.
