Hi I live in baltimore,md . I am think of doing a coast to coast trip this summer. I am in need of training tips and a good type of bike for a trip like this. I have a bianchi 21 speed right now that I bought in the early 90's. any idea will be helpful.:)
Welcome and good luck on your trip.I would recommend you work on building a good base of rides in the 30-40 mile range for training and then gradually perhaps increasing the milage from there .I found this kind of training milage was sufficient for riding 60 plus miles on tour though most of mine have been of the 7-10 day variety.I also suggest doing the rides with some load on the bike as well if this is to be an unsupported trip.As far as a bike most use a touring bike such as the Trek 520 which is more stable than a road bike particularly for loaded touring.I suggest you ask your questions as well on the touring forum as you will probably get more response.
