Anyone tried using a 7800 10 speed crank with 9 speed chain. What I want to know basically is can I use a Shimano 7800 crankset with the rest of my Dura-Ace 9 speed drivetrain. I currently using the Shimano7800 10 speed front/rear derailleurs with Dura-Ace 9 speed cassette, crank and chain. Just wondering anyone had experience with the 10 speed crank and 9 speed chain combo. I looked on Sheldon's site, but could not see where crank and chain combo was addressed. Thanks for input in advance.

It will probably work but the safest thing would be to use a 10-speed chain. The cost is minimal (unless you buy a Wipperman Ti chain) and it will certainly work.

I don't think you should use a 10 speed chain with a 9 speed cassette. I would think a 10 speed crank would be OK with a 9 speed chain but I haven't tried it.

Why not?

No problem, got a couple of teammates running that setup. Use the 9 speed chain with 9 speed cassette.

...can I use a Shimano 7800 crankset with the rest of my Dura-Ace 9 speed drivetrain...cranksets don't care if they're on a 9s or a 10s drivetrain
