So although I am still not officially cleared to ride, I have gone ahead and done so anyway. I have tried to convince myself that I will only ride indoors in a controlled environment, but after the past two days I am not too sure how long that is going to last.

Yesterday I sat down on my trainer, while watching some tv, and decided I would ride for 2 hours. This was a major goal for me, as my longest trainer ride ever was no more then an hour and a half and on average they lasted an hour. I have the attention span of a guppy and get bored incrediblly easy, especially on the most boring training tool ever created. None the less, 2 hours 22 minutes and 22 seconds later I climbed off the trainer more then satisfied with myself and my achievements. It wasn't quite as bad as I had expected, although my knee hurt off and on throughout the ride. I also found that by placing my hand on the remnants of my kneecap I can feel it scraping, which disgusted me a great deal.

This brings us to today, I climb on the trainer once again. This time however I had set no goal. I was watching the finish of the Fiesta Bowl and told myself that I would just get off when I was ready. The Fiesta Bowl ended, GO OHIO!, and I still spun. I watched a little news and became disgusted so I switched to my mp3 player. My knee felt much better today and my whole body felt much more satisfied with the experience then it had the day before so I kept going. When I hit 2 hours I was determined to break my own record set the day prior. Then I was determined to go for 3 hours. Finally at 3 hours, 22 minutes, and 4 seconds I climbed off the trainer and looked at it with total disgust. Never have I gotten off my bike from a ride and said "Holy **** that ride could have been no more boring" but I did today. I can't even believe I managed to stay sane for that long. I was pleased with my ride overall though, considering my off and on training recently, a 177 avg and a 206 max HR throughout. I took pictures of the HRM with time and HR displayed to commemorate the ride, or maybe just to remind myself why I am sore and never want to touch the trainer again tomorrow when I wake up.

I know this isn't the longest ride on a trainer or anything, but for me it was monumental... and so therefore all of you got to here me rambling.

I say pat yourself on the back...I've never made it past 1 hour 15 minutes on the trainer and I have both knee caps (although I am missing a few semi-important ligaments in one of my knees)
:D

Ba Da Gr. Glad about your progress... Trainers- I use them only as a last resort.. Glad its there if needed.. Gaul, if biking were as boring as watching TV and biking at the same time- all we cyclists would be in trouble.. My trainer gets out if we have like a week of rain- which might happen once a year...
My comment. You think there is a chance you might ride in Death Valley..? Not a former Ohioan are you? I am a former Michiganian..
Did you know Michigan and Ohio are the only states to actually declare war on one another? Called the Michigan-Ohio War over the Toledo Strip..
One Michigan National Guradsman was shot in the leg when an Ohio trooper occupied the Toledo, Michigan courthouse.. Michigan was not admitted as a state until the status of the Maumee strip was settled..
Oh, well- Virginians and New Yorkers can get along, so there are no longer guradsman posted at the Michigan-Ohio border... Just kidding.. Just not a Ohio state fan..
Are you still thinking about the march 1 Death Valley ride?

That's large for the time you spent on the bike .... er, trainer. :)

Truly an amazing accomplishment! I have had no disabling injuries, but I know that I would be sorely pressed to even come close to 3 hours on a trainer! The evening you did 2:22:22, I did 20 minutes, and felt like I'd had a pretty good workout! And, your average heart rate is higher than my supposed maximum! Just don't hurry it too much, pay attention to your knee, and have a ball!!
