I was planning a trip to see my older brother so we could take a ride together this summer. He lives about 150 miles away. He and I used to ride every week, at least 80 to 100 miles together. Then the kids came, jobs got more demanding etc. I eventually got back into riding, but he did not. This spring he asked if I'd be willing to take him out for an easy spin near his home. I was thrilled at the idea of spending time with what used to be my favorite riding partner. Last night I got an e-mail from his wife. She says that he fell, broke his elbow and tore the triceps off the bone. He's had surgery to place a pin in the elbow and have the triceps reattached. So, he won't be riding anytime soon. I can't believe how depressed I feel today. Don't even feel like looking at my bike, let along going out to ride.

That's terrible news. I can only imagine how you feel -- like someone ripped a hole in your heart. He'll heal; you'll ride together one day, but right now, it just hurts. Sorry, buddy. Maybe posting helped a little. Be well and give him our solid support and hope for a quick recovery.

What a bummer. This too shall pass--and he will ride again.

Sorry to hear the news, NOS88. I hope he'll heal quickly and two of you will find a lot more opportunities to ride together.

Not easy to feel patient and feeling pained for him is natural. At least he was back on the bike and you both have a goal to get through healing and rehab......spending time on the road together again. Still, a difficult thing for you both...let's all be careful out there.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that NOS88.

Like everyone says - he's going to heal.

Just a very temporary setback.....have faith in the long run.....my brother got hit by a car and broke his hip. He was off the bike for several months but is back riding and in pretty darn good form. What you can do now it to keep the cycling flame burning bright for him.

Give him all our best.

NOS88,
Your brother will require extensive physical therapy after surgery.
His therapist can have him ride the stationary bike as his warm-up before his elbow rehab.
A classic "lemons to whiskey-sour solution".
Now, what's your excuse, bro?
Cheers!
